Sorry Tas, WA, SA and NT you've been removed from Australia.

National titles - WTF?

So is this really a legitimate group or just an eastern centric SUP organisation that doesnt understand the geography or state structure of this wonderful country

Ok - here's your opportunity to explain!!!

or is this it

SUP Australia is committed dedicated to continue developing and growing SUP and its presence in all of the states.

Frankly I'm not concerned about the comp side of things myself - but surely you cant call something a national titles if you don't invite all states to compete.

I thought they held the national titles in August???

One thing I've noticed during the time I'm spending back on the East coast is that a lot of people don't seen to realise that the country extends further than the great dividing range.

When I tell people I live in South Australia they nearly always say it must be cold down there. I say to them, Well, its not down there. Its over there. SA goes further north than NSW does. Sometimes they want to argue about it. Bloody hell. Look at a farken map.

and the other option is....
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/ISA-2013-Australian-Team-announced/
All have their faults but making the claims (pathway to the ISA) and then just doing whatever the management wants, not a great way to promote the sport.

Who is SUP AUstralia?, are they affiliated with SUrfing Australia?. I thought the national titles are part of the Surfing Australia Surf festival held in Port Maquarie and then possibly SUP will be stand alone in the future. We have our own State title races the racing is organised by SUPWA and the Surfing by Surfing WA, i would of thought each state was responsible for organising there own state title races. and surf comps so they can choose their state team.

This reminds me of the NSW government how they spend millions of dollars on Sydney infastructure and neglect the rest of the state because all they're really interested in is votes. Its a state of disrepute really.

Hey RussH.
We did have a South Australian team go to Pt Macquarie for the nationals this year. The team was picked for Racing and Surfing. Both comps were held on seperate weekends in May. The winners earned the right to go to Pt Mac, if they couldn't make it, the next in line could go. I do feel that it is harder for people from South Australia to progress anywhere in the world of competitive Surfing/SUpping. We are not taken seriously, therefore put at the back of the line when it come to support and sponsorship. pb ;)

SUP Australia and Surfing Australia are 2 separate bodies with no affiliation. It's getting difficult having 2 bodies as many races are saying you have to be a SUP Australia member to enter (eg Merimbula and the Surftech Winter Classic.) Last year there were 2 National Titles ???? but the one that seemed to count and had the country's best competitors in attendence was the Sufing Australia event at Port macquarie. SUP Australia's event included waves, flat water and a downwinder while the Surfing Australia event was waves, BOP and a DW.

Can we just have one organising body?

Coming from a self interest perspective.... to their credit, I know that there is a division to cater for the over 50's in the SUP Australia in those "Titles" events, I wonder if Surfing Oz and the State organizations, have adopted a similiar stand in showing their support for that category of over 50's to be allowed to compete in the State and National Titles at Port Mack.
Surfing Australia may have already announced the inclusion of the over 50's but I have just forgotten, its an age thing... can somebody remind me?

Just got back from Merimbula 109 sup competitors , a large chunk of those entries were in the over 45's. So there is definetly a place for the over 50's in next years Aussies.

Russ, its better if they dont know about SA. Nothing to see here, we dont have any uncrowded waves suitable for Suping.

Isnt the winner the person who is having the most fun anyway. Who needs contests to prove that.

Bondage, If you want to have fun mate you need to be at Merimbula. Fun with serious competition. Just ask all the SA crew who turned up.

Fun is different for all. Some guys even like to ride Mals ???
