I have my sup board advertised on Seabreeze, got an email from an interested bloke, a couple of emails later it has become somewhat obvious that the chap lacks integrity, I am having a little email jousting, the board was listed at $1250, I have got the "chap" up to $2500 aud and he will pay via paypal, wow, scam written all over it, for that price I offered to deliver personally! what a bummer could have used the $2500 big ones.....

This is the last email received from the "chap", "he" does sound a little confused, when I realized a scam I just kept saying that he would have to make a better offer as I had others interested.. and he did!

"Scotty says" Its okay then i will like to know if its in good condition has the other one meanwhile i will be making the payment along side with my pickup agent fee after the payment has been made and pay pal have sent you the payment notification you will have to send the money stated on the receipt to my pickup agent headquarters in uk and forward the mtcn numbers to pay pal so that pay pal can credit your account...

The address will be stated in pay pal notfication....

Yes PT got go up to 14 to keep up in d/w's

but it's not actually pay pal, i bet there is a tiny little red r in there somewhere. is he still aboard a ship?

you know i rang pay pal, they said it was a scam. the pay pal person was very short- didn't want to know about. that was a while ago. looks like they haven't been able to stop them using pay pal as a front

Can you go to Western Union for me to arrange delivery
Any mention of Agent Pick up fees
I'll pay more than what you've advertised it for
I am from overseas and cannot look at the board
I am buying for an orphanage in Africa
I am in a meeting so I cannot call you but I will buy the board for $500 more
I am a representative from the government in Zambia

Yes I think I heard of one that sends you a fake paypal page that says it has all the funds waiting for you. You just have to put the $500 or so shipping fee into a western union account and then paypal will release the full funds....
but paypal doesn't work that way......

they do catch people out that don't use paypal much or first time....

I just sold seven boards in two weeks via Seabreeze classifieds. The second hand market worked well for me.

I guess you had more margin to play with price wise...compared to what boards retail for selling them at near half price when hardly riden isnt the greatest thing but thats just the market I guess

well just like a brand new car drive it off the lot and there goes $1000's so buy a new sup once you leave the store there goes $100's deal with it once its used its second hand therefore worth at least 40% less than new.

Im not the only one that thinks the second hand market has had the arse fall out of it....less than 6 month ago 1000 for a used pop out was quite acceptable, and I know a few that sold boards then with no trouble...As much as Casso and Lauire have had success quickly, alot of others havent.... there are plenty of boards in the forsale section here that have been there a while. With my boards I dropped $100 off each after the first week and have OBO on both....have had a few tyre kickers from intersate and that about it...no offers nothing. I just think the market is flooded...both my boards are customs by Chris Garrett, both retail for $1850 or more...I have $1000 on one and $850 on the other....the $1000 one was hardly riden and in like new condition with very unique paint/pigment....So these are below the 40% from new and are just gathering dust. I dont know about Casso and Laurie, maybe becasue of their postions they got good deals on boards and where able to sell them below the market average and loose no more than the average punter paying retail...maybe supply and demand was more in their favour in their area???I'd prefer to not sell them but if I want to keep progressing to smaller more performance sups I have to sell them to move on.

at the end of the day a board is only worth what someone will pay for it....

I like your thinking rollo.

Mine was crap but here it is.

A high quality longboard from a top shaper new costs 1395.
Same board a month on and you'll get 800 trade or 900 privately.
These boards sell fast and are in demand.

Maybe the numbers are light on at the moment.but once sup'ing
grows boards will sell fast.

Buy a new car drive it around the corner and ask for a trade and you
will lose thousands.

I asked a ASP guy a while back if he had any boards he wanted to sell.
He told me if there not snapper he takes them back to the shaper who sells
for what they are x ASP tour riders board.

There ya go,I told you it was crap

the heart of my deleted post
. nobody likes to buy a board for $ 1800 and then be worth $1100 as soon as you walk out the door. makes you think harder about buying a board. it should be a concern for the sup industry that second hand boards are selling for bugger all.
giving low trade in prices is going to be a short term gain.

maybe we should be asking what we will get for a trade in later when we buy a new board? yes the shops need to still make a buck- whats the answer?

low second prices devalues the brand, but when it doesn't sell- what do you do?

second hand customs are harder to sell.seems to be a sup thing. plenty of second custom shortboards sell.

there, that should get a blank bar response
cheers

Lacey good point,

I've always purchased my LB's from the same store for over ten years and have built a strong relationship.
I always get 700 to 800 trade.I told them a few weeks ago I wanted to update a newish board for the new model and I told them what I wanted, and you know what they agreed.A little cheeky of me but if you don't go you'll never know.

I don't bother with the free leggie, free wax or discounted cover, hell I have enough of that stuff. But its a good offer for those who are light on with gear.

maybe a secondhand 'the boardroom like'( a secondhand board shop on the goldie) shop outlet might be a good idea. they offer ordinary money, but it's cash then and there. the thing is you can then go to any shop on your terms

back to the scammers. i reckon they watch and pick the boards that haven't moved ,knowing the seller is primed for the bait. cons sense when you almost want to believe it. scammers, conners have been around forever.

They don't actually care what you're selling, or what you're asking.

They target any site that provides classifieds, and sit there for hours typing emails to sellers, offering 10% more than whatever the asking price is (appealling to greed).

To them, it's a numbers game .. 100 emails out .. 5 answer, 2 proceed @ $200 each = $400.

The scam game became obvious when the chap said he couldn't come to inspect straight away as he had just lost his mother, now this was shortly after an email saying he would come to see the board, havn a bit of fun, I kindly offered to help search for the missing mother as I said I know how old people just tend to wander of etc etc plus I suggested to go somewhere that isnt publishable, havent heard from" scotty" since ....
