Lol , I might have to revaluate the 40 new 30 bit.I sparred against a few 30 year olds tonight and ate a few left hooks , reflexes not what they used to beI did get in a few to keep em honest though!

Agree with that. No probs paddling or surfing but sparring at kickboxing I am a pale shadow of my former self. Can almost see it coming but cannot get out of the way :(

I found towards the end of my rugby league career I was getting lots more injuries from contact. Did not roll with the punches as well.

Loving sup and mtb now though so not all bad.

Yeah same although i played Aussie rules untill i was 36 and injuries became a problem , and recovery also.Mind you I dont live a great healthy lifestyle , smoke & drink to muchA sport like sup is pretty low impact so us old dudes can keep going.Loving the boxing though , and its helping me heaps with the sup fitness.ordered one of those vapouriser thingys to help kick the smokes , looking forward to training without feeling like my lungs are going to explode

@ 55 its the joints and ligaments that have deteriorated that create the problems. I agree more stretching seems to be the key to prevention (but I am often too slack in this department).

In the hands of the trainers: off to have steroid injections in my left shoulder this Friday to try and get back paddling. Its become a real pain.

Its easy to understand why cycling is the new golf, as it is such low impact (unless you are GR - trust you are making a good recovery ).

At 58 you may think you're not that old but your body tells a different story. Stay active, have fun and maybe a glass or two of red!

And the odd cortisone injection to the facet joints between L3 and L4. Lucky I support Essendon in the AFL, they have some really good suppliers.

A while ago I became sick/frustrated of people saying “bloody hell, looks like you have had a hard life” when I say my age.

Now I have added several years to my age when people ask.

I feel so much better when people now say “wow your doing great for a guy your age”

So yes, age matters………..to others.

But, to me it doesn't, I'm happy that I have many years of life experience.

Bit like (“beauty is in the eye of the beholder”)

Or is the (“beer holder) ?

Cortizone today - chronic shoulder bursitis. Fingers crossed it does the business.

It is paddling that did it, so it must be something to do with my technique. Or maybe my paddle is too short?
