...Hodgy who owns the local surf shop in Abay has one on the way. I think he is getting the 9'0. I will certainly ask him how it goes.

IMO, too much volume for the length if those numbers are right.

For each board the rails, width and/or thickness or possibly all of those must be at the extreme upper end of the scale if the litres quoted are correct. I'll test drive any on offer though! Great looking range.

Those board shapes are so 'Bob McTavish'.. .. They should sell well.. .. There's a lot of McTavish fans out there.

According to Bob the 9.0 is for someone 75kg or less.. The 9.6 is for 80kg or less.. and the 10.0 is for 85kg or less..... Interesting.

They will sell for about $1995 each.. and there will also be a McTavish sup paddle.

9.0 x 29 x 4 1/4" .. 9.6 x 29 1/2 x 4 1/2" .. 10.0 x 30 x 4 1/2"

Yeah I agree. 9'0" and 130lt is going to be a prettychunky board.
But if they did some R&D I'm sure they got them to surf pretty good.

True, but if you take materials and overall weight into consideration it can change that theory. I have a 9'3 @ 145L in PU & polyester @10kgs so far so good.

Anyway, I'm not a big fan of clicking on links and going all over cyber space, Has anyone sussed out what the construction is At a guess from his malibu dominance it would be similar.....just a guess.

If I weighed 75-80 I'd definately take a look at a 9'0 by BOB, never heard a bad word off anyone that rides his Mal's.

I did think that the 9'6" was advertised as a board for up to 80kgs, for those dimensions and litres I'd expect a person over 100kgs to find that board floaty enough. Any thoughts?

The litres represents floatation for paddling performance IMO, once your on the wave that is where the shape of back half of the board and fins come into play. If McTavish has got the blend right and your advanced enough, there is no reason that someone in excess of 100kg could be on the 9'0.

Im a huge Mctavish fan and have been for over 10 years,I remember a couple of years ago when ordering a custom from the factory I noticed a sup on the rack. The first I'd ever seen.I was wondering why they hadn't started mass production, but I guess with GSI in the mix, they will be coming to a store near you soon.
These boards will surf unreal,Bob knows his stuff like no other

I would of thought the same....if he gats the rail shape right and has the volume in the right areas they should go OK....

yer they loosen the show up

but it changes the smooth line along the rail for drivey long turns as you push from one rail line then onto the hipped/flyered/stingered rail line

does that make sense

as i dont normally make sense at the best of times

its just me dudes

if you like it loose youll love it

but for drive forget about it

your petty spot on lacey, the proto was around noosa 12-18 months ago if i remember correctly and it looked outdated and fat then,.i am surprised gsi took so long to get mac t on the market, but it is ready for summer, and this summer is going to be big just watching all the lessons the tourist are having in noosa.wait till you see the mccoy sup, based on his nugget design.

Hi All, Matty Martin from GSI here, just touching base with the McTavish chat here.

We haven't published the litres yet or the weight range either so all that stuff is just speculation at this stage -weight range can be subjective- as we all know ability plays a major role in how large or small you wish to go. it will be on our website shorlty.
We can be confident with Bob's design work. He's renowned as one of the world's best board designers, he's an exceptionally good surfer and a fantasic bloke. And no doubt he'll be available to discsuss the intricacies of deisgn with you at some stage.
When Slater was last out for the Goldy and Bells comps this year, he had Bob design him a pretty amazing shortboard. Something that Bob had discussed with Kelly 10 years ago on a flight back from Tahiti -about board design and fin placement - made sense to him now, and Kelly wanted to develop it further. Gives you an idea of how forward thinking Bob is; when something he said 10 years ago now makes sense to the 9 times world champ. At the other end of the spectrum he's designing boards for the some of the worlds best longboarders and everything in between. He's defintely an innovator of functional design.
We'll have all the tech info on our site shortly. No one's has surfed the boards yet other than Bob and his team -who have been taking their time to get it right. I would love to have had them earlier too, but you can't rush that kind of thing. But if it's good enough for them and has got them very amped, it'll be just fine for me.
Hodgy will havea Demo one at " Hodgy's " in Apollo Bay and he's been on my case to get it asap I can asure you.
Great to see the discussion about everyone and everything -have a great weekend, looks like some swell coming our way in Vico. Stoked.

Bob's boards have a special place in surfing folklore so I suspect that we are all looking at these as some kind of benchmark. Its just that we can't understand the volume issue. Where did Kagey's data come from?
