Paul, there is little to no difference in wave catching ability between the 10-6aa & the 9-6waa ,i actually favour the 9-6,but stability and general paddling is were you need to make a decision,re; your ability and general style of waves you will be riding. If i had to choose only one of these boards,it would be the 9-6waa,purely because it surfs better.Paddling is quite different in as much as there is a lot more yawing with shorter boards, but that has it's advantages when positioning for waves. It is really important to demo both boards if possible.Good luck, and have fun.Rodriguez

Hi, Yes the 10'6 AA is what i wanted. Then the seed was planted when i was told why not the 9'6WAA its just as stable and will surf better.

I only want one board and will more or less only be surfing it. Im not all that keen on flat water runs. I will only use the flat water to find my feet, Then im into the surf 90 percent.

Paul

I've never been on a 9'6 waa so I can't say if it will surf better or not. But i'm pretty sure it wouldn't suit as wide a range of conditions and uses as the 10'6. Most of us sup addicts started out saying we were "only" getting one for fat days or small days or fitness or whatever. Then we got hooked and started buying more boards for more uses. Ask around, it does suck you in.

I just want to remind you that it's you that's buying the board.. Not the shop.

The shop can recommend something but that doesn't mean you have to agree.

You've put a lot of thought into deciding what board's right for you.. The 10'6" W AA sounds perfect for your first board.

I have both the 10'6WAA and the 9'6WAA.

The 10'6 you can take to the beach on just about any day and IMHO it will serve you really well. Fins play a big part on how this or any other board performs. You can make it as loose or as stiff as you like. I think it would be a great first board!

If you do go the 9'6 option:

The 9'6 IMO paddles faster than the 10'6 for me due to a slightly flatter rocker but it does yaw there is no doubt about that. You can minimise the yaw by putting in a set of inside foil fins PC 7s seem to work well and what ever center fin you feel comfortable with. I would suggest more of a straight up and down pivot fin or a cut away. Either style fin with a bit of depth will improve side to side stability but wont hamper your turns too much.

Revvin from SB was able to step of his 11'6 Kalama and catch waves on the 9'6 in reasonable conditons, and was gob smacked.

Depending on weight and skill in IMHO the 9'6 could be a bit of a challenge in adverse conditions.

Hope this helps

Phill

Hi

Thanks for that, I was leaning towards the 9'6WAA because i can only afford one board and want to use it for the next 2 yrs. I was told the 10'6 is good but i will out grow it where the 9'6 is just as stable and i will not out grow it.

But as mentioned i had concerns that at 87kgs i might be making a mistake

But then again i dont want the mistake of buying 2 boards either.

In nz its different most small guys are on 10ft lairds 27 wide, But bigger guys like myself are on 11'6 kalama etc.

But im told the PSH boards are different and as such can be used much shorter.

Has anyone round my weight ever started out on such a board as the 9'6WAA

Unless your into pretty high performance surfing, I don't think you will outgrow the 10'6 aa. I've seen a couple of interviews with Blane Chambers, who shapes the boards and he states it is still his main go to board.

Sorry to go over this again, But i want to ask what is the more stable out of the 10'6 AA and the 9'6 WAA

If about the same would it not be best to go smaller.

Surfing will be 1 to 3 ft aint got the balls for big stuff yet.

One is slightly wider and one is a foot longer.. Stability will be similar but the shorter board will have a smaller sweet spot to stand..IMO..

I am 92kg and ride the PSH 9'6 Ripper no problems.

I would personally get the 9'6 AA, so that it challenges you more and you won't need to get a new board in 6 months time.

I know it can be a hard call but demo both if you can.
