Long time reader first time poster. It's great to see things like this starting to happen in Perth! I've been mad keen into SUP since starting about 7 months ago and get out whenever I'm back home and not up north at work. Being on shift I can spend a bit of time reading SB and never really see too much for Perth like this.
Hopefully John from SOS has my shiny red Fanatic ready when I fly home in 2 weeks and I'll be keen to get any tips from those already doing it so I can get into some distance paddling locally.
My first time on a board - at a 'trial' day - was woeful at best. The guy had no idea, was telling me that I was doing it all wrong (turned out he had no idea - aside from taking them off the trailer had never touched one in his life!) and generally was there because he had to be.
As people start to see DWnders out there having a blast its only going to get better. I'll be checking my roster and ringing Darren for some lessons - the more help the better I say!

Between this topic and the other Perth topic, if half of the people who have expressed an interest show up it would still be a good turn out and at least a few new faces for me.

I'm looking forward to it.

But as we know they don't so it will be Belly, me and Tim

That's the spirit Hilly!

By the sounds if it and from personal experience, mornings are more convenient for most and having something organised at set times week in week out might all ow more people to organise kids/wives/partners so that they can be free.

Finally got a bite

Have tried to organize heaps of paddles always the regulars turn up. It will be great to get some fresh meat for the dw aspect as flat water sucks. As it gets lighter in the mornings will see you before work but I start at 7 to 7.30 so Argos better for me.

Speaking of afternoon sessions it looks like a lago in the making bit of south in it and small swell, I try and hit 3rds for a beach session about 4:30 -5:00pm

Had a look this morning but tide was too low and it was cold....soft aye

Agreed there has been and will be people downwinding EVERY windy day of the season but still seems when it comes to the crunch no one is really keen except for a select few.. Fingers crossed this season will be different..

Can't speak for others but am always keen to paddle but often work and family commitments don't always mean its possible. The one down side of down winders is the time. A 2 hour paddle usually takes all afternoon by the time you met up with everyone, do the car swap, paddle and then car swap again.

Hope you had better luck I got crap. Backwash effected small crowded close outs. Would rank as close to the worst surf I have ever had. Bit sad as it was offshore all day

Onya belly a barrel on the sup nice.. yeoww

Yeah Hilly, should have checked the tide charts, even lower tide and backwash city. 10'11" got air born on more than one ocasion. I stopped punting airs after a flat landing...., Also bit of Southerly slop to it...

Not one of my best SUP sessions but after 4 months of 10-11 hour days 5-6 days a week it was nice to sneak out of the office early and get wet.

Best part is waters warm enough to be back in shorts and 1mm rashie...Going to try again tomorrow lunch time.

G'day Fellas Im always keen for a downwinder late arvo or even flat water early mornings. For the adventurous keen to do some summer doctor runs or even just from gage roads to the mainland, got a boat so no probs there just need some dw mates to get excited about it. For the record im keen but inexperienced (dw) and riding an F16 at the mo. Live in Nth Freo, drop me a line anytime

Hey 270degrees
I am doing some training for next years Doctor. I've been looking for a downwinder buddy to do the Sandtracks to Cott run on a Friday arvo when the conditions are right over spring/summer.

Also I'm out early Tues and Thurs from Zephers in East Freo (0545- 0645) - let me know if you or anyone else is keen for an intense training session.

Cheers

Hey 270, gage roads to beach run sounds good I would be keen, I waiting on my first 14' to arrive about mid October.

Always keen to get into some DW's along the coast (I do the CB to Trigg run on the kite a few times a week when the winds on). The Doctors on my wish list for next year, time to start training a bit....

Anyway I keep an eye out and post on here if I doing a run, I think you will see a growth in the sport this season going on how many extra Suppers are in the water. Go back 6-7 years there would only be a handfull of kiters doing the down winders, now look at it...

Have car can shuffle
