yeah this had been posted before, i first saw this article when it was in my local paper 2 week after the incident happened, this article make the doc look like a saint and that the attack was totally unprovoked, this was not the case, and like most newspaper articles doesn't get the other guys story or ask anyone else that was out there

well logman im not saying that it was justified, im just saying that the article doesn't even represent half of the story, the two guys where already on the wave when the doctor paddled onto the wave on their inside, ran into them and was swinging at them with his paddle, iin the proces taking a nice litte chunk out of one guys board and hitting the other, on of the guys then punched him and he was also hit with a paddle,from what i hear it took the doctor 2 weeks to go to the hospital and that was when the newspaper article was written, he was not the only guy to be pucched that day, but because the rest where shortboarders they dont get a newspaper story about that,

Yeah, well I remember rocking up to a place called 'The Spot' north of Perth for a goat boat contest in about 86.

We were all in the carpark checking out the crappy surf when this crazed looking guy comes charging up to the contest organiser with what looked like a pit bull and a pair of num chucks!! He then starts going nuts threatening the poor buggar with the num chucks!!

Obviously a disgruntled local he was just about to take the contest dude's head off when one of the other organisers, who was an ex boxer, casually walks up, grabs the num chucks and decks the nutter.

I remember thinking at the time what an aggro place this WA surf scene is !!

Australian red neck tribalism at it's ugliest and it happens everywhere unfortunately.

Any of you ever been to, or played in a game of footy? Any code! Always takes two sides to tango and quite often it is the victim that cops the blame. It sounds like this dude did the evil "snake" then started the violence ball rolling. I in no way condone any of this (it never happens in Victoria anyway) behavioural rubbish. They should all take up knitting if they can't keep their tempers in check or, or, I'll send Aunty Jack around 'to rip their bloody arms orf!!!'

Nunchucks..... how 1980's. Y'see living in the centre of civility, manners and culture, also known as Melbourne, what tends to happen in this sort of dispute is one of the disputing parties apologises profusely then goes home, rings the police who then send a couple of officers around to the offenders house and shoot him.

Haha, good one Windy, You obviously havent surfed Trigg Point much. Spent the first 30 years of my life as a local surfing there and what a ZOO! Surf rage was very much alive and well. Cant believe we even held club comps there. Makes the Alley over here in QLD look uncrowded

I agree with jradedmongo. The scoop is the doctor was the aggressor.
And it was one on one not two guys taking to one.
With the police advizing the second party to lay charges but they declined.
