After reading lots of Brookos posts I reckon he goes out with respect for all the other people out in the water. That's the best attitude to have, and I do the same.

Every day/beach/session is different and when you don't get that respect back - well what's the point - I think good on you for sticking it back up to them, if you can get away with it.

Sounds like some of those shortboarding sooks should have spent more of their energy paddling a bit harder rather than wasting it sitting around in the cold water complaining about others.

Yeah Loco & Greenroom,

I understand your points of view but I don't think you understand Brooko's position.
Portland on it's day has probably the best right hander in Victoria or even SE OZ but it's never that busy even when it's firing. For years when a good swell is forecast I've said to my Vic west coast mates "lets go to Portland!" and everytime it's the same answer, "stuff that, those guys are mental". I've heard of heaps (probably 15 to 20) incidents happening down there that has lead to no-one travelling down there to maybe share a couple waves.

Brooko, were you SUPing WT by yourself? How many surfer were out?
I'm sure there were plenty waves to go around.

Yeah thanks for the back up Oli I give everyone respect in the water, except the tough guy hero's that dont deserve it And I am the type of person willing to play the game right back at them, whether I am on my shortboard or sup I think a few people maybe missed the whole deal with my post... If I see a learner, a kid, a kook, a whatever, and they have nice attitude I give them a wink and a thumbs up, I smile at anyone in the water unless Its a tough guy hero, who I am willing to back myself against everytime

Brendon that same day BN wasnt working, so most of your heros who never surf WT but only surf BN were out there, Robdog and I both commented we had never seen this many people out there and guys who never surf it were out. I have surfed It everytime it has been on since I moved here and had only seen the big mouths at BN.
I felt like saying "P**s Off back to BN " anyway, a mate who was out who I seen today said I got the wave of the day so Im stoked anyway... Looks like she will be firing again on the weekend stay tuned

I have only surfed with Brooko once, but I have been around a long time!

This guy loves to surf and he plays by the rules and I couldnt see him snake anyone or cause any agro if everyone is on the same page.

Respect gets respect its earned all the way round thats life.

The man rips on a sup and he has the ability to surf any break I have seen.

Hes the sort of guy that cheers you onto a wave because he is truely stoked you caught it! Not enough of his type around in my opinion.

On the other hand, I believe that Brooko would give up an inch of ground if you threatened to take it from him about the time he stopped breathing and rightly so!

Some people only understand going to war and that sucks but it too is a fact of life.

I think I would rather take my chances with mr chompy than Brooko with a methane in his hand!

My 2 cents

Phill I believe surfing, suping, life should be FUN!!!!!

If surfing gets you that agro give it up and do something you love!

This topic seems to have morphed into a discussion on surf etiquette.

The correct answer would be ... it all depends on the circumstances of the location, the day and the people surfing.

Consistency with the general behaviour is the key.

If a SUP is surfing at a generally crowded lineup and takes all the waves then the SUP is a wave hog and should **** off.

If it's a good day with a good crew and everybody is sharing the waves then the SUP should share too.

If is is a honking day with only high performance surfers out, and they're all going as hard as they can then the SUP can take all the waves he can get. That is what everybody else is doing.

One of my most fun days in the surf was with a really old guy who just dominated the surf all day. It was a bugger not getting waves but it was fun seeing his pure joy at having such a fantastic day. He ended the day shouting he'd had enough surf and was going home for a blow job!

Out of all the discussion on this topic I think Gorgo's post was the best If there was ma weekly award for common sense and a great post , you win it

At the risk of boring everybody further by extending this tension, I did read this recently cos I was new to the forum.

I think its highly relevant for you Hulk - why don't you just let it go?

Seabreeze posting guidelines

What we expect from you:

Do your best to keep it clean, fun and informative.

Be understanding of others - they may be stressed, arrogant, stupid, smart, young, old, right, wrong .. who knows!

Don't take the forums too seriously! Topics often go off the rails when people start reading far too much into others comments.

Keep focused on what's being said and not who's saying it.

Only post while sober! Those that post drunk usually regret it the next day.

Avoid defaming people or businesses, not matter how 'in the right' you are.

Yep, makes sense. I used to get drunk and bid on ebay - I made some mistakes but some of the stuff that came in the mail two weeks later was actually quite good. But getting back to the topic - let it go hulk

This Thread has made me appreciate my local spot ever so more. Long open Stretch at Buddina out of the tourist destinations of weekend surfers even though it is in the middle of the coast. A descent bank every 50m to 100 m down the beach so you get a bank with your friends in an uncrowded environment.

I'm with the other Robbo, uncrowded places make the day and invite no stress or need to wait a turn.

Feel for you in your crowded spot
