Paddle loop I sewed onto my Waist Leash belt.
I've tested it but never had to actually use it....far.

Hey Creek! Yeah, I need to try that too....when the water warms up a bit.
Looks kind of fun.

I do also use the loop on my waist belt to pull and hold the leash up out
of the water for less drag and since where I surf there is typically lots of kelp.
Actually, there are two loops...a small one to use with the paddle and a longer
one, which is the opposite end, to hold the leash up out of the water.
Although, now that I think about it, I seldom use it any more.

I thought the double drop was a passive-aggressive strategy by Creek to underline his point!!

Do freestyle. Paddle is down back and under one foot.
Like everything you need to practice but fast, efficient and easy.

Can you give a little more description coz I just don't understand how the paddle wouldn't float away.
Personally I prefer the paddle handle in the loop of key holder which is in both my boardies and wetsuit ( conveniently on calf area )

Might do a video and show. One foot on top of shaft while paddle or handle since in-between shoulders (or touch lower). You are actually longer in the water thus go faster except only one foot can kick.
Comes from clubby ski paddling since I was 13. No leg ropes and we did love going out in big surf. Long swims through big gutters etc.
