Currently, just under 50% of new topics in this forum are about a demo day/event .. 12 out of 30.

Do you think it clogs up the forums, and distracts from everyday paddler posts, or do you like seeing them there? (They are all listed on the top right of the topics page in the demo days list as well.)

I'm with Rob and all for it.

It is simply a reflection of how many retailers, importers and manufactures are willing to let people demo their product before they purchase. To me anyone that will do this is showing they truly believe in the product they are promoting and are willing to put it up against all others. This is good for the consumer and in turn good for the sport.

My $0.02. The race listings, results, pics etc are great. I love them.

I would imagine Lauries post is asking if people think the demo day listings are just advertising brands.

I think he is really asking if we want our forum to become a commercial wonderland or would be it be better if it was kept for the paddlers?? A place were people can come for a 'public' opinion on products rather than ran by companies with online marketing strategies.

His earlier reference said that based upon what happened in the kite and wind forum that there was in fighting with people that pay and don't pay for advertising on the site and those that are allowed to post info about their brands or are not. His decision was to make a blanket rule for everyone. I'd imagine that the people that pay for ads would not like people that don't getting air play on the forum.

I love the photos and would like to see more of them. The demo days are fine by me as well as it lets us know what is going on and if it is in your area you have a choice to attend. I would rather know about it and have a choice then not know. If I see it is a demo in my area I read it. If not I skip it. Though sometimes I click on the photos of these days and it good to see the people who write in action.

Leave them in.

Sorry Laurie, but I have bookmarked the site to open directly in the Stand Up Paddle Surfing forum and I don't even see where the Demo tab is. And I don't care to go searching for it. So I say allow people to post demo days in the general chat forum where I can see them. Split the discussion and you will kill this forum. It's bad enough that board reviews were banished to the dungeon. Guaranteed the people who complain about too many demo threads are those using equipment by manufacturers or shapers who are too cheap to stage their own demo days. I suspect that most of us really like demo days. And here's a tip - if you don't like the topic, you don't have to open the thread.

So in a nutshell, keep the demo threads here.

I agree
I did a test with the last club day as some people said they missed the post that was intended to let people know. I posted the same thing on both the general and club talk forum. I suspect that those not on the sunshine coast did not all click for a read as I try to keep the topic title specific. I had a couple of hundred reads on the general forum and bugger all on the club talk one. i think a lot of people just read the general and might miss info if not on this area.

Same thing this month. 14 reads on club talk and 113 on the general forum.

Just my 2 cents.

its great to see new stuff and know whats going on....as the only forum Im on that charges to advertise secondhand gear I would have thought those "pimping" new stuff would have to be at min a site sponser...maybe give them their own sub forum like "vendors"

some sites make the vendors buy a "star" or such, which keeps them in line and straight up the masses know what they are about.

just keep it a fair playing field for all....after all were keeping them afloat....and this site

Thanks for your input, appreciated.

Just to reinforce: This is -your- forum, and it will go where you guide it, which is why I'm asking. Some folks say it was getting commercial, so I've put that to you, and those that have answered here, have said its not commercial, which is great.

Regards the Board Reviews, have you tried the "Jump To" box at the bottom of every topic, and at the top/bottom of the topic list? Really fast to get to the other forums...

It's a hard one... I'm not big on the sponsorship side of the events. The best events reject the idea of having the sponsors name in the title. I was hoping Sup is better than that - I'm wrong. To me Sup is about grassroots stoke and I'm personally tiring of brands attaching themselves to the feeling we get from it. I don't know what the answer is, but the forum is starting to lose me.

Red thumb me if you think I'm wrong

Agree and also with Oliver's other remark, this forum is losing me.Its just going around in circles.

I think it was Makaha who posted lost seabreezers
When you take away ALL the thumbs it will help make a better forum,as it is now there is little choice, green and the sitters cant respond with a red so what's the point

This is what I reckon:

Sydney Paddle Surfing Club - Next Event

Don't forget that our third event in the 2010/2011 season is on this Sunday, 12 Dec 2010. This will be at Long Reef Beach, starting at 7:30am and we'll in front of the lagoon somewhere. Conditions are looking awesome with plenty of sunshine and light, offshore winds. It looks like the waves might be very small though, but that's the beauty of SUP - we can ride just about anything!

Here's an estimated schedule for the day:
- 7:30 am - Setup, competition entries accepted
- 8:00 am - Cut off for surfing competition entries, heats drawn up for surfing competition
- 8:20 am - Round one of surfing competition starts
- 10:30 am - Round two of surfing competition starts
- 11:30 am - Final of surfing competition starts
- 12:00 pm - Women and junior divisions paddle race starts
- 12:30 pm - Open division paddle race starts
- 1:00 pm - Presentation

We will have the cool new 2011 t-shirts available for purchase at each event (until stocks last). They will be $25 each and we've got heaps of different sizes in both men's and ladies.

Hope to see you on Sunday at Longy.

Very Very Smart!

But Casso you run club based comps for fun not commercially based events tied to shops, 2 very different things in my book!

I dont mind the demo day info at all , the forum has gone backwards a bit because any industry people who care to share their knowledge get canned with the pimping tag.Geez i would love it if blane chambers was still posting , talking about his boards , or a dale chapman or any off the other shapers , sponsord riders ect.

I rekon you should invite em all to post till their hearts content.

what about- 'do you think topics that aren't related to demo days are clogging up the forum'

the post title and content is very leading and laurie was very quick to claim a victory imo

the wholesalers need to pull back and give the keys back to the shops, give them their demo boards to use to help sell their boards instead of making the shops buy them, which they really can't afford to buy . let the grassroots surf/sup shops do the demo thing and then there will be no real problems with shops posting a demo day or just tell everyone -hey, we have these boards on loan from such and such you can try. pretty pictures of demo days and reviews i've got no problem with.

brands -just do the adverts

super down size the corporates input please or the forum will die
