I believe the Titles are on 23-34 April
Registration closing 18/4, it's been a little quiet on the marketing side but details are on the Surfing Vic website, hope there's great surf, ideal bop conditions and a howling Dwer, is that to much to ask?

You believe correctly Mr Ock

HiF Surfing Victoria Victorian SUP Titles - to be held at Victoria's Surf Coast April 23 and 24.

The two days of competition will include a distance race, technical racing and surfing. Tech racing and surfing will be at Point Impossible and the distance race will be offshore along the coast (there are a couple of alternative courses depending on the weather. The States will form the basis of Vic Team selection for the National Titles in September but it's not just for the elites - this year emphasis will be on PARTICIPATION, and everyone that takes part will receive a state ranking in the disciplines they enter. There are a lot of SUP people paddling and training hard, this is a great opportunity to get amongst it with the state's best.

At this stage the Marathon Race is scheduled for Saturday 23rd (along with a Community paddle along the Torquay Foreshore) and the Surf Competition and Technical Race for Sunday 24th (subject to conditions - final schedule will be released by Surfing Vic on 20th April)

Entries are open now via the link below (note that this event is run by Surfing Victoria - entry requires Surfing Vic membership)

www.surfingaustralia.com/SurfingVictoria/event/2016-hif-victorian-sup-titles

(and Surfing Vic tell me that interstate competitors are welcome for the Tech race and Marathon)

Surfing Vic also tell me that as a special incentive, division winners in the surf comp will be invited to an expression session at Bells Beach at the Vic Longboard Champs...so if you want a chance to surf in comp conditions ate Bells on your SUP...

Correction: Stand Up Paddlers who win their surfing divisions will be included in an expression session at the Toll/Ipec open state round which is to be held at Bells (conditions pending as always, the back up location is Jan Juc for the event) This event is the Open titles, not the Longboard titles.

My error.

HC.

all this looks really good but I couldn't see any 10ft longboard categories included, maybe this year an expression session can be held in preparation for the inclusion of an open category next year...now that's a top idea.....

surfing Vic needs to rethink the ''those two but not surfing are welcome''.the sport needs any sup surf contest anywhere that anyone from anywhere is welcome, the state titles are the rare birds,if men woman and kids are keen to travel and enter, let them in! fair enough non residents no hope for team Vic,but please look at the facts.,bugger all comps in any state EXCEPT STATE TITLES!

Thanks Ockanui

Looking at the supplied image you would think the legitimate graphic would have competition dates and registration dates.???

It looks to me like an artwork piece that accompanied a sponsorship proposal.

A well known song featured in the classic surf fllm' Tubular Swells ' by the Steve Miller Band comes to mind here.

Surfing Vic have said they'll make their final calls on timing, courses and locations on 20th April, based on (expected) conditions for the weekend.

That's an odd photo to use with a state titles for surfing and technical racing - someone is paddling on their knees and it looks like a lake. Is that the sort of conditions they are aiming for on the day? If so, I might have to drag out my 11' and give it a crack.

Looks like a snap from the community paddle at last year's titles...you'd be well served by your ll footer in this year's community paddle (Saturday 23rd, 9:30am, Torquay foreshore - be there )

I would assume that an unlimited board is ok for use in the marathon, no mention on the Surf Vic site of any restrictions etc....

the surfing vic membership issue is a trifle confusing for the novice.

i assume you need to enter the event plus be a surfing vic member? Anyone know if the standard benefits are included in the suits membership or if it's separate?

cheers

I'll have a 19' x 26.5" flatwater board for next year. Happy to charter it to the highest bidder!

Keen for the paddle, little disappointed there are no unlimited allowed. Not sure why or how come ?
Can anyone give so guidance why, and if I/We should enter with unlimited boards, knowing you can't win/no prizes but still a good paddle.. At a cost of 60$

Just turn up with your unlimited at the start, get in the water and go for a paddle in the general direction of the finish. If they won't take your entry, you've saved yourself $60.

Surfing is scheduled for Saturday but Sunday looks way better is there any reason why they would run with moderate on shores compared to early off shores on Sunday

Currently predicted onshore both days.

Sat - 9am 6 knts
Sun - 9am 2-3 knts

That's still two days away so who knows.

You can't odds it, Surfing Vic had to make a decision at some point and they went with the information they had at the time.

Who's to say a big Westerly wont blow up Sunday morning for the marathon... you rolls the dice, you takes your chances...

SV have to consider the marathon as well as the surf comp and which day's conditions work for the course options for the distance event, they make their call on balance between the two.

And like Stumpi says, you can't odds it, it's Vicco weather we're talking about.

Regardless of the sport, when you have an outdoor event scheduled for a particular time on a particular day, the only approach is to do your best with the conditions at hand. The format for the weekend is set.

That more often than not, means competing in conditions that are less than ideal. The great people of sport embrace that. The not so good ones use such as an excuse.

As they say, cream still rises to the top.

Good luck everybody!
