I got out there at midday. A couple of sets where about 4'. Most were 3'.

The thing about Big Left is that quite a large face quickly crumbles to 2' of white water before sectioning back up to 3' .

The break is over 500m out to sea so it always looks small from the car park.

Of course, it's in our interest for the surf report to be crap as long as the web camera is working and we can see what is happening for ourselves.

I'd prefer the cams to be switched off as well and go off the observations.
That way a lot of people wouldn't know where to go to get the best waves!

Funny thing supping?

We all hop on the forum - do our best to get it popular and accepted, but when people are addicted and are accepted, we don't want other like minded people invading our space. Reminds me of the gay movement in the early 80s.

WTF

Oliver, I'm not talking about supping, there isn't enough of us to bother me on the water. It's the part time surfers that flock to the good spots when they are working. I've never been SUPPING in the surf yet with more than 3 SUP's in the water.

I've always been against surf cams but over the past couple years have learnt to live with it and try help people with finding good spots etc. There's plenty of waves. You may have misunderstood me a little.

If you know how many hits the Triggers surf cams get per day you would agree it can't be the 100 or so SUPers making up the numbers.

p.s. I hope you didn't get your space invaded during the 80's gay movement.

I just make observations and make random comments about them - doesn't mean anything.

I like the surf cams and use them as a guide - conditions looked great today.

I think you just have to be part of it. So often I think in my head it's going to be good and I get down there and it's not, and vice versa - sometimes I don't expect anything and the conditions are fantastic.

I've been on four or five down-winders now where it was sposed to be honking and only once it was.

I keen as to do a downwinder.
I used to have no interest in them at first but now I'm coming around. Beats driving to sometimes poor surf conditions. I just need a bigger board and I'm in. I'm meant to be driving to the snow in 5 hours. Hope you get good waves down Invi way.

Hey cam still dont have a camera yet, and were always that keen to surf we are just straight out there
But I promise I will get some photos one day soon.

Yes you can surf 1ft waves (i surfed them yesterday) although not a lot of fun.

Brendon I reckon your spot on, that wave looks around 2ft

Now this is just a guess but Im tipping we get way more swell down here and yesterday was 1ft - 2ft max, bigger in the morning and dropping way out in the arvo.

Today is very small, smaller than yesterday, very rare for here, it wouldnt have been 4ft down here for about a month (also very rare). just my 2 cents worth.

In regards to the small surf of late Brooko the swellnet forcaster explains in his extended outlook that the swell is being directed north off W.A and up towards Indo but says this pattern is about to change and we should see some decent size waves heading towards Vic in the coming month. Will wait and see it can only get better,
Camo.

Oliver, the most accurate camera for checking "surface conditions" on the Surf Coast, chop/lumps etc, in regard to good sup conditions, is the Trigger bros Torquay still cam, 1 or 2. Also gives very good indication of size, as there is normaly people out.
Most "surf reports" don't report this in any detail.

I reckon Boardroom Bobs photos are pretty good as they have elevation and you can gauge the swell except when he is out enjoying himself which results in a late post but which itself is a good indication that the surf is on for prone anyway.
