**** that's a big hole they've dug and some heavy duty engineering.
Will be interesting to see the wave it geneates. Think a while back I saw a scale model clip somewhere and it looked good. Going to be serious if it's 3m waves.
Cobra, will it be open to the general public?
I saw an article on the news a few days ago saying it wouldn't as it was a proof of concept for investors to build at other locations
Sounded strange to me
Funny went to an 80 th birthday party few months back in Qld and all the old fellas were talking about this . Supposed to be biggest waves in a wave pool in the world apparently and huge hopes for it as a tourist attraction . Will be interesting to see how it goes
Well that's what they are saying Tas, SP it's 11m or 13 m deep.
only thing is you know how a wave has all the motion behind it,with a man made wave
it can only be short lived unless it's like Kelly's and still have that train diving it down the line.
Who knows it could change everything.

Who knows mate, I really don't think Kelly knew he would have a ASP comp in his wave pool when first building it.
peeps ask why so far from mainstream, like Kelly's .its not about keeping secrets,
would anyone pay prime $$ for land with freshwater ,as I can't see Kelly's or any other metal structure sustaining
saltwater, only to find it didn't work that well.
I heard somewhere that Kelly owns the WSL,is this true?
I think it's kinda the opposite...WSL have bought the majority share in that surf ranch wave pool.
ive got a itch
pfffffffff ...... yer either got Tinea or a picked up a dose of crabs ya dirty bastard cow herder
I'm calling it Mad Max, I'm going to surf it wearing a Bane mask or chrome my face so I can enter the gates of Valhalla or the surf lake all shiny & chrome.
****** small wave nothing on king Kelly's wave, even the pro's found it hard to paddle into and the wave running out of stream.
Please tell me thats not the best wave passed 1770.
signed not a Kelly fan
Cool,next roadtrip is to Cobra's joint,free accommodation
Sounds good that wave is all time cant wait for the after party at Cobra's pad but please dont call it a road trip they never happen
I think its a much better design from the standpoint of number of wave output. Kelly's is fully sick, but has to shut down due to chop build up. Dunno yet what the wave dispersion is like on this one to limit backwash causing chop. But the fact, there will be 5 lefts & 5 rights generated with each push of that thing & each different. It is possibly the best design ever once they crank it up to its max size...and its Oz, fark yeah
You didn't read anything,,,,,did you Mac. It's not cranked up yet.
Read you want me to read oh ok bring on the track trip because those road trips never happen
Apparently he got the thought from a stone thrown into water. Now that structure/ stone in the middle can get bigger I've been told.
remember it's only a proto and lots of work still to go. when do you stop pumping $$$ into it?
at the end of the day who are you catering for Mac. Not all can surf Kelly's pool ,meaning the class of wave hence this pool has 5 breaks and you wouldn't have to wait for the train ever time you want a wave.
BTW It's not cranked up yet.
Because it kept breaking lol
It had a crack in the weld geez, lol it's not finished do you really think they'd leave steel unpainted sitting in water.that bowl can get bigger.
say it slowly with me,,, p r o t o.
I'm wondering what would happen if that big round thing was different shapes.
Good point mick. The other thing is safety you wouldn't want to get anywhere near that bowl.
Yeah would cause some suction as it lifts sucking you towards it. But looks like they have like a shark net m8. Wouldn't surprise me if some kook sat out deep in fear of actually catching a wave & testing that net. Good point...seemed like they got this up & running so fast. Reckon they will be able to test all the variables pretty quick. Just hope they make one over here, plenty of great options within an hour of me. Places that are just dry salt lakes outside of times of high rainfall acting like natural chlorinated pools of water with a bit of digging & some water. Actually salt lakes close to the ocean would be perfect if allowed to obtain water straight from the ocean rather than fresh water supplies. I wonder where these guys got there water. Was it obtained onsite or piped from freshwater reserves. Doubt it was obtained from the ocean, but ocean water would be perfect for this kind of project, eliminating the need for huge amounts of chemical additives.
mick they use local town water.not that water is a worry here as 2nd biggest catchment in OZ.
but they still charge like its rare as hens teeth.
noticed the other day they were emptying so something is happening.
i also know a couple of blokes who surfed it and they loved it.
