Just as well I'm not a politician... I'm crap at making new friends these days. Deep down I'm also shy, but I'm pretty good at p!ssing people off these days...

A Kids Birthday Party at 10am this morning... I met one of the mums... She works for ACF Australian Conservation Foundation. I tell her, this could be interesting because I estimate the cost of some big Mining and Oil & Gas Projects...

Her major interest project was James Price Point, near Broome, a project which has been rewarding to me financially...

I told her the site was a good choice, because the site wasn't the most precious piece of real estate on the Aussie Coast, plus it spreads the work away from Port Headland and Karatha which can barely handle any more workload... That revved her up a bit!! She tells me that a leading Engineering firm doing the environmental impact work, failed to identify it as a Bilby site. She noted that it is of significant cultural heritage... I told her they could just pay the elders several millions and that pain goes away pretty quickly, I can tell you... She didn't like that either!!

Then I said, "about the whales... I don't get that. Even though it is a breeding ground, there will be 3 pipelines along the ocean floor that the whales won't see... They will continue to breed... She was fuming by this stage... She tells me that if the whales disappear you can't bring them back... I told her that whales survived a killer long whaling period, so I'm pretty sure they will survive while 3 pipelines get laid...

Yep, no friends made today!!

Her solution was to use the existing pipelines down to Karatha and use the existing plants... (plant in this case is my word... A plant for her grows in the ground and needs preservation,!)... I politely inform her that the pipelines are full and the plants are running at capacity, so the 3 new pipelines would still be needed, probably along an existing pipeline corridor... Plus a new process facility...

She also said WA is a cowboy state... And this time it was best for all parties to walk away... I told her that there are some very intelligent WA personnel working on major projects over there...

Good fun!

So what you are trying to say is you took great enjoyment from stirring up a Mum.

I'm guessing she wasnt hot, if she was you would have bent your views of the project to demonstrate how you in particular tried to consider all of those factors being the good guy you are.

yes its been an interesting development.....I think that you should probably have to post 50 or more before you can access it - that way you can keep any of the rif raf out who just like to cause trouble or have multiple log ins.

As for your experience this morning Simondo - it was a Sunday so thought you might have been easy on her - especially if she may possibly be a child minder for you at some stage in the future - especially when you really need her because its 4 to 6 ft at Winki, offshore, mid week and no one out and you have extinguished all other possibilities

Or maybe she might be down the local shopping centre one day with her equally clueless husband and he might finish the argument.

Of course your opinion would be different to those that dont have a financial stake. I love you your other comment about the whales recovered from years of whaling , pfft.

Heavy weather in the Longboard Forum!

Boofy, sorry for a boring post...!

Many people don't appreciate the multi billions of dollars which mining and oil & gas project inject into the national economy.

But seriously, I'm no whale sanctuary marine expert, but I'm willing to bet $10 that the vast majority of the whales won't even see the pipelines, the off shore rigs, or the lay barges during the 2 year installation. Its an ocean zone of 500km x 500km...

The mum used the old chestnut argument... All the profits will go off shore to foreign companies... Sorry honey, the key stakeholder is an Australian Company and you and I can purchase shares in it. The other partners might be based overseas, but they invest heavily here also.

Deep down I would prefer the world not to consume oils at this rate... And the project would not be required.

Simondo it sounds like you have simply exchanged opinions in polite conversation and she spat the dummy showing no respect for your views.

It also sounds like you remained calm and didn't turn it into a blue so good on you for that.

I reckon people who attack the use of fossil fuels who continue to furiously burn it themselves are fair game.

Did you know that Boofy re-posted your post in gen discussion this morning and it was up for an hour with no replies before it got moderated?

Poor form Boofy.

Gwendy,
Yes you are right... We both had a pretty positive conversation. I stretched the truth about her getting annoyed.

Boofy, I seriously apologise for any annoyance I caused!
