Sure, its his business and he can do what he wants...

But for me, GSI are the definition of what is destroying the local surf industry, lots of other ways of growing a business... Maybe look at the MCT, Almond, CW, Christenson models and see what they are doing...

I just disagree with cheapening your product to mass produce. I had a look at one of the GSI Creative Army Boards and they are cheap rubbish, basically a 7s with a CA logo on it... His Customs were glassed by Takama and are unreal and now he's devalued those. I would think a better option would be to create a new brand name for the cheapo crap and then maintain your main brand...

Its also worth noting that MCT went into the GSI thing a few years back and then got out a few years later... Bob came out a year or so back and owned the mistake, wished he hadn't gone down that road...

Those big brands will chew up the little guys and spew em out...

Wow, haven't checked back on this 'till now. Good points bought up all over. I had read a little on the interwebs about the build quality of the MLC and it seems to be a mixed bag of the quality really. I thought about maybe going to a local bloke and discussing doing a similar shape as the 3" thickness on the 7 footer seems a bit much and having a decent glass job would be nice. The little extra weight wouldn't worry me.
Does anyone have any recommendations for some one on the Goldy that would be good for the task?

And I reckon he'll be cheaper or similar, $700+ for a china pop out, really

Steve Del Rosso at Clearwater Surf would be my bet. He's an awesome shaper, really good at listening to you about how you want to surf and what sort of waves your surfing. His boards are seriously under-priced and really good glass jobs. My Hotlog is 5years old and still mint (besides the collision damage I have done). definitely go have a chat to him or call him... But there are a ton of good shapers on the GC.

Went to see Steve last week and he seems like a nice bloke. Listened to what I was after and he put in a couple recommendations so I told him to "shut up and take my money." So my order is in. Turns out cheaper than the MLC and and should no gamble on the quality.
Will post a Pic in a couple of weeks when finished.

Reading these comments make me laugh, anyone stop to think that the flood of surfboard companies IN OZ making these hi quality works of art are cutting their own throats. Truly some of these guys think they are coffee shops ,pop them out and they will come. Then blame the China man up the road for making cheep coffee. I've purchased a pop out, why ? Because I went on a trip to Sumatra didn't want to pay a premium for something I wouldn't use much when I returned. Two No time to wait ,and didn't want to wait for it. Just drive around the Goldie or Byron and there's a coffee shop on every corner selling surfboards.
Anyhow now I need to smash myself in the face for commenting on another topic that gets rehashed every six months.

I think this thread is actually the perfect example of why you "TRY" and buy local... In this case this dude will get a custom, he's supporting SDR who is a legend and a small local business rather than an OS sweatshop propping up some greedy corporation, he's actually getting it cheaper and I gaurentee it will be a vastly better board... pretty simple if you ask me.

Every time I make make a transaction I am aware that I am making a choice, I can use my money to support good things or I can be short sighted and be part of the problem...

Anyway, SDR is a west Aussie, so maybe his materials and labour costs are in WA dollars and his sales are in Aussie dollars and that's how he makes his meager living in this pop out world.

Quality, custom made to the riders choice and a smile for miles priceless in my book.

Ask your popout guy for some extra meat here and there and ask for a change up in art lol.NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
