Well they needed an extra leg(paddle) so they can balance now training wheels, may as well sit on the beach and watch

I am gunna cop it for this BUT - for many sup'ers the paddle is the only way they can turn a board without falling off because it acts as a kind of outrigger for balance. Put them on a surfboard of similar length (alright, lets call it a mal) and they would not be able to turn it cos they dont understand the concept of having to get back on the board to turn it rather than stand flat footed in the middle of the board. The side wings wank is just another way to make it accessable to more non-surfers. I think Paul J hit it on the head in that sup topic when he says basically if you cant stand on it then get a bigger one !! I then say if you still cant stand on it, either learn to surf or stick to land based activities.

Kinda slightly off topic but I would go so far as to say that every surf school should put their hand up and offer 1 x free surf lesson to every person who sups. It should be an australia wide promotion supported by all the various state surfing authorities and even though many sup owners wouldn't take it up I reckon a few just might and even 1 x surf lesson may give some of these "never surfed but reckon I'll head out on me new sup and catch a few waves" fools at least a basic understanding of just how waves and lineups work. And every sup retailer should have some sort of relationship with a surf school and give a complimentary paddle/surf lesson with every retail sale of a sup. I was a sup instructor for a big surf school on the goldy and we mainly taught non-surfers to sup and in most cases I would be pretty happy with all my students going off on their own and having a crack at a few waves after I had finished with them. They may not have had any real surfing skills but they had been made aware of their limitations and the consequences of exceeding those limitations.
