Can't believe you listed Flat Rocks...that was the go to spot back when I was growing up in Gero.....fark I had some good sessions there
Going on memory Tux, was in Gero around '76 for a year, surfed lots of places over there, really uncrowded, as you know the Doctor comes in no matter what but on the odd occasion the wind was slow to come in and bingo Flat Rocks turned it on, surfed for hours with a bloke who had just opened the surf shop, I think it may have been the only one at the time. Met some bloke at the Wintersun sunday session who said he was a station hand at Gnarloo and scribbled directions to a break close to a station called Quobba. Within a few days, loaded my 404 Peugeot Wagon with stuff and a few boards and wax, chucked in the job at the crayfish processing factory, headed north with a mate to find the wave. Surfed Kalbarri for days and days, till we were totally useless, then went to quobba, met a station hand there who said f*** off no waves around here...we said there is a big cave there.. with some convincing, loaded the beers into an esky into the 4x4 ute, headed off in search... when we arrived there were maybe 3 utes with a couple of fisherman, no surfers to be seen, some amazing scenery and some friggin freight train barrels out on the point. Ended up staying on the station, got friendly with the au pair girl, played in the cave and stayed up there for weeks on end with the odd trip to Carnarvon for supplies............. it was too good to leave... it was one of the best adventures ever.... but yeh, some great spots around Gero
