@Chrispy haha same here mate on the rockstars statement...well apart from Keith & Ozzie...got some hell survivor DNA those guys

But I think its probably easier to do things in the other order these days...pieces of paper are so important these days, especially when you don't have the personality to make things happen...this guys telling us he's not a people person, seriously need bits of paper to do the talking if thats the case.

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance....baffle them with bull****...was one if the first things I learnt

Mac, I've always been under the impression you needed some family ties to the island to actually live there. Is this not true?

haha Chrispy, I grew up with a single parent...was selling pet rocks & wild flowers from the bush from the age of 9. Plus collecting cool drink bottles & washing cars, then selling newspapers in pub drivethrough bottleshops from the age of 10 till 15...we were little scamming buggers back then always chasing a buck

I've heard how good the Collangatta gold was back in the 60's Pup...I worked for a bloke who grew up there & knew MP. I think there's a Midnight Oil song, the one with the drummers greatest solo that shows the development cycle on the coast there...Man imagine a street of coastal holiday shacks along the beach with bush up behind & a few crew out in the waves. Would have been nice

There's a FB site called Old Sunshine Coast - lots of pics of the 60s, 70s, 80s - and my mates say why don't you like it? I say it's like seeing old pics of myself as a young Adonis and then looking up to see the ferking devastation that has taken place.

I loved Coolangatta when I stayed at the Mantra for a week back in July 2009. I got heaps of waves opting for the second or third best perfect peeling wave along the stretch of coast. South of there...pfffft yep no waves....

Not planning on posting anymore rarabla to this thread..I'm going to post a response I typed up a PM response to the young bloke in case it helps any other young people that might be lurking...mind you its just my opinion & I'm ceruainly not some genius...pretty farking wasted yep, but thats about it...

............If you are lucky enough to be in the position of getting a trade. Plumbing & electrical are the best...coz they require maintenance, where as a brick wall is pretty solid, so bricklaying is not so reliable in global downturns. Painting also requires maintenance, but can also be done by cowboys & pays less. Looking at the employment ads can give you an idea of what people are chasing & a bit of research to consider the future needs of those positions.....Its also good to consider that a place that is awesome for a holiday, may not be so great to live full time. eg. Japan - I visit every year coz I have family there. Holidays there are awesome, but its like the 2nd most highest suicide capitol of the world due to the working conditions. ie life revolves work, rather than work revolving life which it is a little more in Oz. We live in a beautiful country & many things make up our quality of life. It can be hard to way them up, but at the end of the day. A job paying a fair wage...a job, that you don't mind doing, is the most important thing. Coz thats where we spend most of our time....Then again, like I said before if you have some particular skillset under demand. You could do something like design some awesome App & rake in the $. But a lot of people are doing that..life offers you the opportunity to take chances. Sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don't...best of luck

Can't worry about what might and might not happen, just go! Most of the towns wont grow that fast (like the Goldie) as they are too far from any cities and have very little infrastructure. (That's way too big a word for me, very few facilities! that's better). Get out there and live!! Mate I'm late 50's. My wife and I are making up this huge list of surf breaks that I haven't surfed in perfect conditions. We are going to travel to them all and wait!!! Only 2 more years and we are off. Yew!!

Better than nice.....the place is spectacular....I want to take my grom down to see where dad used to run amok...

And sit in the surf and look up at all that magnificent backdrop....it was the only place as a kid I felt a real affinity with the world and how insignificant we are,how lucky we are and just why I loved surfing.....
