3rd hybrid board build, my homemade vision of bic T293OD for use as lightweigt guy in gusty ligtwind lake.
"Simple cheaper" half sandwich build, i use for foil and windsurf board.
293x71 around 190l. Carbon daggerboard and setting plate i build for last hybrid board. 3 position bic mast track. Chinook power insert. 20kg/m3 EPS with XPS central part in wich i make daggerboard place. Hotwire cut then PU glue









Bottom shape is a simple V nose to tail.




Bottom lam: 4oz glass, 1 oz veil micro sandwich, 5oz carbon UD.

So do you put a layer of microsphere slurry down first and then lay glass on top. Then squeegee it down ?

First i seal eps with slurry then laminate 4oz warp fiberglass with clear epoxy then i spread a coat of slurry, lay the glass veil then spread an other coat of slurry. After cure i slightly sand/scuff then lam the carbon. This way i have a 1mm layer of short cut reinforced epoxy foam sandwiched between fibers layers. More or less same idea than bulker mat (coremat, spherecore, etc). Poor man sandwich LOL.
On deck i will do a cork sandwich...

My current schedule is using .88oz cloth in the eps sealer.. giving it a go as it’s supposed male the blank stronger.

More work:
I mold an insert around mast track with carbon and extruded PVC.
I set it in board and seal deck foam.
I prep carbon reinforcement and fix with tack spray

Looks great. What sandwhich will you use on the rails ?

So you blend sand the cork edge into the rail ?

This is exactly how i do my first hybrid board, i use the center part of an old broken f2 Phoenix 320, gluing eps foam around, shape and wrap with glass and carbon fiber. Still my travel board I use it for SUP and windsurf in all kind of conditions. My friends use it also.
I hope this new board to be better...

I am far from a raceboard expert. From what i read, see and try, there was 3 kinds of hybrid boards in 3m range. Formula hybrid: wide like rsx, exocet pacer300, starboard formula hybrid, bic od 320, f2 lightning hybrid, mistral prodigy... shortened raceboards like phantom 320, 299 and 295, exocet pacer 290...
And big freeride/freerace with daggerboard like bic T293OD and without mast track, phantom free, jp funster, fanatic viper...
Wider one's don't really rail because in wind they can it's better to plane upwind, freeride/race don't rail because of powerless small daggerboard and rounder rail so better to plane too. Only small raceboard realy rail like long raceboard.
My goal is not to realy rail even if i like that but to be able to go upwind efficiently on lulls then to plane downwind on gusts.
I am light 70kg, ride small gusty lake, my go to shortboards is 72 cm width.

Yes this is exaclty what do a friend when he ride is old fanatic 320. He also have the 370 and know how to ride those classic raceboard but with the 320 he find that mast track full front stick nose on water so he leaves it in the middlle and play with CB, leave it slightly exit to have some lift. I don't know with phantom 299 or 295 but with hybrid i can use i never have the railing feeling like with long raceboard, when you are scared to overturn and push all you can on lift rail.

Are you able to share measurements of tail and nose width (one foot from each tip) , max thickness and position of widest point measured from the tail?

Finished ! 13kg with daggerboard and mast track. Need to modify/adjust daggerboard flange, reshape daggerboard head and to build a push system to help exit daggerboard. Too hard with this kind of PU lips.
