Yep Paul, entirely agree with your point of view. Just get out there and enjoy the sailing. 95 percent of the time you'll get going with 1 board and 2 sails if you know how to tune it and sail it. Spending $$$ thousands more just to cover a few days a year seems like a poor investment to me.
Of course my view is perhaps biased by the fact that Im time and cash poor, and clearly jealous of all you guys with trailer loads of nice new kit.....

I was at a freestyle show a few months ago in 20+ knots. In spite of wind changes in the arvo, we all stayed on the water the whole time just to max out our sail time - mostly overrigged. And God knows some of them's pros have tons of equipment in their huge van to cater for changes. We just didn't want to come off.
Mean the while, we had the locals with their trailers re- and de-rigging all day.
Ironically, it seems too many options cuts on useful sailing time.
