I am new to kitesurfing and coming from a surfing back ground my whole life where in my local area there were a lot of surfers who thought that people riding on body boards should not be in the water, personally i didn't give a s**t as long as every one was out there having fun and giving respect to the person who has right of way. It seems that there is a very similiar feel between kitesurfers and windsurfers every one should just stop being so stuck up and enjoy there chosen sport and respect the others.

I cant believe that anyone would call out "starboard", no one can hear you! The last time I yelled that out was in my narrow minded dinghy days. The basic rule for all craft is to pass port to port and to avoid colision at all costs, although I am not sure a Kite is classed as a vessel and therefore should have to give way to everyone.
Knuckle, there is still time, its not to late.

I am impressed with the number of kitesurfers that read our forums.

Note: There where no Kites at boggy this weekend. Thanks guys.

The trouble is that this rule is the opposite of what you do on the roads. You just cant trust the oncoming sailor to do the correct thing so you just HAVE to be proactive in avoiding collisions.

Well no, not really. I've always thought that we do things a bit strangely here in Aust (on the roads I mean)
Ships always passed port-port, so then when the first cars were invented they did the same. Likewise when aircraft started. Then Aust, U.K and some others decided to go the other way on the roads. Go figure????

I reckon the same people invented kitesurfing

Hey Mark,

I heard a story about the Poms wanting to "Keep their sword arm free" so the driver had to be on the right side of the vehicle, therefore the cars had to pass on the left.

Knowing what the poms were like back then there might be some truth in the story...

Stupid idea really, it'd be much better if you could fiddle with the radio with your right hand instead of your left
