Once saw an airborne kiter wrap his body around an oncoming windsurfer's mast at Lancelin. Ouch!

I've noticed kiters have moved further south at Cott than last season. Some seem to come right up next to the groin. In the past, kiters would stick to the shallow reef further north all the way up to the phone booth where windsurfers can't really go unless you want to break your fin. This way we never really used to get in each other's way. I wonder whether having had the gravity games right next to the groin has led kiters to believe that this is a better spot for kiting.
I agree with FAmateur in annoys me too when kiters point so high upwind that you are forced to go underneath their lines or go a long way downwind to avoid them. It would like to see the kiters move a couple of hundred meters further north again.

you know this is the reason I am learning to windsurf and move away from surfing, I got sick of all the ****ers and hassling and d**kheads that think they own the place.
I haven't read all the comments in this forum but i just read the one from the kitesurfer at pinnaroo. I thought I could get away from all this by getting into windsurfing which is not necessarily restricted to so small a geographic area as a surf break.
It all makes me, a beginner, more reluctant to get out there and have a go for fear of incurring the wrath of someone who, by virtue of being better than me, thinks he has more right to be out there than me.

Aww Loren, don't be reluctant!
The actual point of this thread was a windsurfer who had been got by a kite and the kitesurfer involved who was writing here to apologise - which the windsurfer accepted happily - problem solved, no animosity at all!
There are very few idiots around but you do get them everywhere - at work, on the road, in the sea, on the cycle paths. Windsurfing is a GREAT sport - I have met so many great guys and gals (from beginners to international champions) who are only too happy to chat to you/give you advice and generally be encouraging - not cliquey at all!

Katy's right Loren, mainly Avalon is a friendly place, especialy thru the week when it's not crowded.
wave sailing is much less agro, because you can catch every wave that comes thru, you don't miss them because you're not quite in the right possy. So there are more waves to share.
This thread is about an extreme situation, it can happen, but is rare, don't let it put you off!!!

I absolutely agree - windsurfing is a world apart from surfing where it comes to crowds. There is much more freedom, and plentty of water out there. You'll also find that the days of floating 10 ft away from someone for half an hour without exchanging a glance are behind you!
