well i don't actually live in yamba, i live 10 minutes out on a farm. so yeah my backyard is pretty big :D

also, as others have mentioned you will be hard pressed to get a spot at calypso caravan park, but definately worth a look. it is right on whiting beach, you literally have to walk less then 200m from where you camp, to where you launch. Thou if you get stuck on the wrong end of the park, you might wanna take the car if you are real lazy :D . most holidaymakers here tend to be regulars, they book when the leave the year before. I see the same people year after year.

also try the blue dolphin as well for accommodation. i will give them both a call tomorrow and see if they have any vacancies. Might check around and see if there is somewhere close to camp, otherwise people are welcome to pitch a tent at my place, thou it is a little far out.

you are a legend swoosh and thanks for the help.

sincerely i appreciate your offer. i think you should be a permanent member. if it does come down to something like your suggestion i am sure we will make it worth it for you.

but first we'll see what can be organised in town. i had a look at a couple of the websites that have been listed and there does seem to be a few vacancies around. whether we will get everyone into the same place is questionable though.

from my point of view i have no choice but a hut/cabin or something above that. my familly took out an anti camping policy after a camping incident involving my dog in ballina and then confirmed their decision after last years storm at Cootharaba. although the dog no longer comes camping the decision has stuck.

however others in the club love to camp. some have campers and vans too.

that said. i really appreciate you looking around. i am sure we will resolve something in the end. i can't wait. i only gotta mentio the word yamba to people and they start smilling at me.

well i had a look at calypso caravan park and the blue dolphin holiday resort today. it will be very difficult to get accommodation (maybe impossible) between christmas day, and probably a week after NYE. however before christmas, and a few days after NYE, accommodation should be no problems for unpowered sites, and cabins.

if you want to stay in a cabin style place you need to contact the blue dolphin holiday resort (02) 6646 2194. its a few minutes drive out from the beach. calypso is practically right on the beach, and you can contact them on (02) 6646 8847, but i think they only have sites, not sure about cabins.

theres also a few hotels/motels around. and holiday letting is also a good option if you want to stay a few more days.

Hey I was there on the weekend and it was awsome 25 Knot westerlies in the lake (lake wooloweyah is similar to lake Cootharaba). It is amazing down there for wind directions. Spoke some mates who live down there and they said it would be awsome to have a meet down there as long as there was a swap meet. Ill try and post some photos on the gallery of all of the locations.

And a good tip for booking is that it would be cheapest to book for before NSW School holidays. Queensland goes on holidays usually a week before NSw. it is less crowded and cheaper as you paying off peak fees.
and gestalt i might have some footage from Xmas eve last year where dad and i experienced 40 NE until 7:45 pm

Hi Kruza.

thanks for the tips. i like your photos too. that is very flat water i can't promise gear swap yet. but sounds like a great idea.

speaking of footage. did you get your vid finished? do you want to upload it on the wanderers site?

cheers

I also grew up at Yamba and spent a lot of time out at Whiting and Pippy beaches sailing.

When the noreasters roll through I dont know any better spot to sail.

For the SE winds you go out to Greenpoint near Angourie and launch off the rocks in the surf over the reef.

JasonP,

I had to check your profile, thought it was the 'great-man' himself!

(Although I didn't think he grew up in Yamba!!)

All

Yoyo asked me to load some tracks at Yamba Harbour. But I don't have a GPS or whatever it takes to do this. So I have just penciled in my path/track from memory.

www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=5157

BTW - as JP prob knows Hickey island is not - an Island that is - once was.

TG Yeah sometimes the wind doesn't blow but this is true for all spots. Viewing the sailing area from Turners Beach Car Park can be misleading though, as to how strong it really is - I always bring sails from 7.5m down.

Cheers

Last year we had NE every afternoon reaching 20 knots sailed every day. But remember to bring a surfboard. as Yamba Features two world class point breaks and and many consistant beach breaks.
The usual lifestyle for us down there in summer is surfin the morning and sail in the afternoon.

When you get a good runout tide and a nice 20-25 knot NE breeze coming in you can get some fairly large swell rolling through at the bar end of the rockwall and still get the perfect flatwater up along the wall at the river end

my backyard should be avail, (not actually mine, my parents). It really depends on if I am home for the summer holidays.

it is pretty far outta town (yamba). i would say 10mins to the water.

Have you tried booking the first week of the Queensland School holidays, thats when we Go and its pretty quiet then bacause NSW hasn't gone on holidays yet. PLUS ITS CHEAPER. The crows always roll in on boxing day and it is hard to find a spot.the later you leave it to the less wind. I'm heading there for a two week holiday at sept.
