Few facts.
It sells for around $7 to $8 per meter length plus Gst. There a heap of listers but the one I found which was a little more expensive but quicker to ship and arrives usually with in a week or 10 days.
The criss cross pattern is flush and cant be felt. As I said I have had no sailing time atm but isn't soft. I would guess its thinner than normal boom grip and not as soft. I think it will be harder wearing but time will tell.

Re acetone: I found it didn't work. It failed to soften the contact cement adequately even though the grip was pretty shredded and it was still a chore to get the grip off after leaving it the sun for some hours in a plastic bag. I found mineral turps worked well. The Severne vid recommends "automotive thinners". Anyway mineral turps works. It doesn't bother the epoxy/carbon but I think it's wise to keep it away from any plastic bits.

My mate Whitey use this same heat shrink on his booms, also uses a wider one on his mast to solve the age old boom slippage problem. Seems to work really well.

NotWal n Haircut, after using turps did you have to clean off the 'oily' residue left? Would it affect bonding of heatshrink or contact cement?

I don't know if it matters but I wiped it down with acetone afterwards.

How does this rubber wrap with for blisters? Do we need padding on a boom grip? My severne is almost bare find wokew my streamlined has a thick padding which i tried to send down to reduce hgri size as well!

Finally while not simply patch damaged areas in the first place?

I wiped the arms with metho then used quick grip to glue the new stuff on. I don't recall any issues.

What, just heat shrink on the bald patches? Or maybe that self fusing silicon tape?

I have used it on one of my booms and it's great stuck it straight over the old grip no issues and feels great in the hands.

Yes, really no need to do an entire boom if only a few areas are damaged no? I bought a pretty badly regripped boom, and I just cut it, stretch it out and reglued it.
