Its amazing how much sea life there is up here.
Yesturday I saw a half eaten turtle and a couple of small rays.
Today I saw the second shark Ive seen up here in the Dampier harbour
This one was quite big and actually swung around to have a closer look at me then within 3 meters it did a 180 turn and shot off like lightning. and that was about 10 metres from the shore. I just stepped on my board and was sub plaining when it approached. Scary.
I also saw my first sea snake today out near this clump of rocks that sit out of the water. I was blasting back and forth past this spot as it had dead flat water Did I just write that? Hahaha anywho... I also saw a handful of rays and a squid washed up on the shore when I came in with a pack of hungry seagulls fighting over it.
The sea is alive up here with bities. People at work think Im mad... thats because I am

Man, that sounds scarier than Bubbles the man eating sheep!
The speed sharks move and change direction is insane, if they want you there's no out running them. How's your legs, turned to jelly? Mine did after a big tiger followed me out while groveling.
Those seagulls sound pretty scary too.

I did the Mistral worlds in '88, sailed near the sewerage works off Manly, NSW. We saw some big sharks during that regatta.

Saw a big manta ray beach itself on Elwood Beach, VIC. It stayed there for about 5 mins, shivering, then F'd back into the deep blue.

Twas on a few weeks ago, sailing in the Mandurah Estuary a dolphin leaped out of the water about 3 feet in of me, then tracked along for a while before realising I was no challenge in the speed stakes and nicked off.

As the dolphin leaped I nearly s**t meself, which reminds me, I have seen a few blind mullets while sailing as well

Yep sailed with many a dolphin up at lano its cool when they roll around and look right at ya. One day when it was faily flat and boring up there i sailed about a k past the reef i saw a pod of mienke whales probably 20 of them they look like 20 foot long dolpins ...i could almost touch them i was that close cooool..
Also over east in the Noosa river mouth i had a very close encounter with a 13ft tiger shark
Corro's i had a rather large sail fish jump outa the water in front of me.Also all up and down W.A. coast have seen many flying fish cool colours and they fly with you for ages.
It,s awsome to see stuff out there, even sharks it keeps you on your toes

I was out the back at Pt Moore and a flying fish came out of the water about 30m's away. It took aim and speared straight into my leg. It didnt hurt much but i was sorta stunned.

Back when i was a young bloke racing dingy's it was not unusual for the odd fish to jump in the boat.

Mind you it never happens when i am fishing in my tinnie.

Last time I sailed at Mandurah, I was waiting for a couple of crew in a car park opposite some shops at Halls Head. There were a bunch of young fellas hanging out in front of said shops. Coppers come screaming round the corner lights on, drive flat out across the nature strip, on to the footpath. One of the coppers gets out, legs it after one of the young fellas who is attempting to bolt on his bike. Brought him down with a crash tackle... Then there were tears GREAT ENTERTAINMENT

Seals......(I hate seals...fish theives!)

The ones here have an unnerving habit of laying around with 1 of their side flippers out of the water...

Seals - same in WA... I see seals almost as often as I see dolphins... They are a good reminder that big fish eat little fish (or seals).

They pop up, roll over, look at you... Dogs of the sea...

I see sharks everytime I sail.

Elusive little buggers: I always see them out of the corner of my eye and when I turn my head to get a better look they're gone...

Dolphins galore, small sharks, Turtles . Also got 'rescued' in Darwin harbour by the Sea Rescue. Apparently there was a 15ft saltie cruising nearby so they came out in their boat and gave me a ride in. Whales in Gnaraloo. And saw a Dugong in Darwin. Now that freaked me out. I had no idea what it was.

to repeat greenies post "it's amazing how much sealife..." to read you guys seeing dugongs sharks mantas etc..i only can see those doin' scuba and am amazed myself you get to see those..too bad ours is a bit murky all you see are like mullet jumping outta the water being chased by another huge fish or while at planing speed a thousand fry just rains on your sail and a few squirm on top of the board..i once 'peed' of pain by kicking away a man o war and got worst when the tentacles entangled on my right leg. i was lucky a nearby local got me a public utility jeep to drive me to the hospital with the rig still in place the next day..for bender, i read a local newspaper a yr. ago a father and son were fishing for food when a bunch of flying fish with bills struck them apparently the boy got hit at the back and lung punctured and never recovered while the other hits were thru 3/4ths plywood..damn those fish! just an unlucky coincidence...

turtles, turtles, turtles, slow dopy buggars, until they see you at the last second and then you can see the panic in their eyes, wouldn't want to hit one, they are about 2 feet across and would be pretty messy for both of us.

havent seen much while sailing, only dolphins which i thought where sharks, and stuff like that, but when i was younger me and my dad would go out on the boat see incredible things, manta rays would circle the boat, upto 8 of them, sea snakes, eals, dolphins, big bloody sharks, as long as the boat, dugongs, stingrays, big cod, huge turtles, and little turtles, a school of small fish in the shape of a whale, school of tuna fighting, schools of any other fish jsut swim past, huge squid, (talking about ruler length heads, not including tenticals) saw a box jelly fish wich was a feww hundred km off of where it should have been, huge jelly;s, and just huge fish, and all the wonderfull corral up north, we would see people with there cars wich had been caught by the tide, and while fishing you would see, small fish take your hook, and that small fish would get takes by a bigger fish, than the even bigger fish gets takes by shark, oh and the most exiting thing about karratha fishing, is you get a nice 60cm long fish you fight it for 15 minutes, and all of a sudden the line goes slack, you real it in and all there is, is a massive fish head with no body on your hook, and you see a nice shark swim past looking nice and full. but since i moved to perth i havent seen anything cool like up there, besides ordinary dolphins and what used to be exiting a seal, but not anymore

Best fun crabbing i ever had was windsurfing for crabs. Clear water, so and i ropped a tub onto the board (a huge old boat with triangle salis) and because i was up so high i could see them easy. Then when i spotted them by brother would jump off and go down with the snorkle and get them. Got heaps of dem which was great fun.
