Hope you guys got better wind than us, it was gusty as hell at wello. Went out 5.3 perfect, then a bit of a handful- went in to pull some downhaul on, watched curac re-rig to a 4.5 then wind died.

Finally got to use that waveboard today haircut, geez I havent been on a waveboard in ages so I struggled a bit. But otherwise it felt good and had good behaviour in the air once I got everything in it's right place.

What a day!

Got there to find a couple of the usual suspects out there, they started rigging 5's until the wind dropped, so I rigged a 5.7 and was well powered for half an hour, until the wind picked up. Rigged a 5.0 and was well powered, couldn't believe the speed guys rigging 6.2's and 6.5's. It then picked up again, so I rigged a 4.6 and then the wind dropped.

I've never seen waves that big in the shearwater before, the wind was driving the swell so hard that the waves were actually breaking in places, it was stronger yesterday than anything I've ever been out in. Occasionally I couldn't waterstart because when I was getting everything set up the wind would flip the board out of the water and over my head...

Sorry mike or pierre left phone in work bag. Went down about 1, took the waveboard anyway. Tide would have been a bit high for vp to work but I should have gone there anyway since it was so southerly.

mannn you guys should have gone in the ocean. i checked out the alley but decided against it as it seemed really offshore and flukey
so then i headed around to nobbies beach.. wind was a bit flukey in close but it was there where you needed it. and cross shore.. although it did swing cross off and cross on from time to time. there were some ok sized set comming through. say half mast.
the waves were even breaking ok.. well enough for a few turns before close out... **** IT WAS SO GOOD TO GET SOME WAVES AGAIN>> OHHHHHH YEAH BABY..

what happened??

this thread should now read Shearwater Tuesday!

for those that made it, I bet your still smiling, for those that missed, all I can say is that there were times those of us with 5.0 plus sails rigged had to sit out and wait for the wind to back off!

Awesome session!

well i didn't break anything but had a horrible session.

rigged the 5.7, had a few good runs and then got hit by a crazy gust.
beared off to for a huge broadreach which ended in a catapult after the board got airbourne.

when i got back to my gear the sail was pointing at the bottom with the board upside down. spent the next 15 min struggling to get the sail to the surface. eventually got it back and waterstarted totally buggered. sailed back in and stood on the shore gasping for breath.

20 min later went back out again. totally overpowered, gybed off, got hammered. same thing again. rig sunk. 10 minutes later i managed a catapult waterstart, rig sank again. got it back up and sailed back in to call it a day. physically destroyed.

half hour later derigged and had 5 litres of water pour out of the mast when i pulled it apart.

the strongest gusts were around 4pm where it came through at about 35 knots.

i dunno mkseven, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.

watching jesse absolutely go off was a reward in itself.

plus the sun, the SAND, the clear water! p.s do you have any expanding foam?

i really like the shearwater. it is paradise.

The sun gives you cancer

The sand is a pain, it gets everywhere

Clear water- sometimes you dont want to see what is in the water

If there is lovely ladies running around derigging for you and stuff then paradise it might be but i'm sure shearwater dosent have that
