If the last two meets were anything to go by he's got a hotline to Huey. Amazing to watch him quietly confident that the wind will come in from the west and then bang in it comes.

I'm not so sure about Saturday though, the forecast is all over the place...

yes fitz66, i have big crystal balls

one has a seabreeze tatoo on it and the other is black and has a number 8 on it. [}:)]

actually i can't take credit for the forecasts. i just read the maps that the computers calculate. i still haven't figured out how to predict the seabreezes though. will have to wait till next summer to try it again.

i've tried the moon method.

i used to cross reference the moon phases with the archive charts to pick a correlation. that didn't work. the whole moon thing is bollocks. yeah it is normally windier around certain moon phases but what day? it could be anywhere within 1 week either way.

the other thing i've done is look at vando's gps data and wind strengths over the last 4 years and compare it to the BOM archives to see what different weather patterns mean. that helped.

i am sure the computers aren't always right. so i am pretty sure there'll be some errors in the future.

i basically just look at loads of different computer models. half the trick is to figure out what all the different information means and then apply rules of thumb. i've also read up online to help understand what everything means. the weather is constantly changing so when the 2 week out forecasts come true i think it's a bit of luck.

anything within 4 days and seabreeze is usually on the money.

now i've said all of that it probably won't blow on the 12th. but it's fun being a nerd and having a crack at it.

Did you have too much time on your hands. Saturday is looking good according to the graphs. I try to use nature in predicting the wind.. I have found that if the birds are flying backwards its blowing its ass off

cheers everyone for joining in. It was good to see we out numbered the kiters for a change. there were so many windsurfers on the water that i couldn't fit them all into the frame when taking photos. i think there were more people on the water than i have seen at wello before.

We got another 4 new members too!

i am in the process of doing the review for the website and should get that up in the next few days.

big thanks to Board Crazy for sponsoring the bbq and drinks for all. really appreciate it after a long day on the water. Simon and Wim were the lucky winners of the board crazy wetshirts in the giveaways.

also big thanks to Windsurfingsales for the gun boom giveaway. Dan the man had a pretty big grin on his face when i handed the boom over. (and why not!)

i thought at one point we might not get any wind but after the cloud cleared all was good. 5-20 knot Westerlies (perfect formula weather )

Haircut also had his helmet cam there. so hopefully there'll be some good vids of everyone. i had a bit of a look on the beach and the footage was superb.

i got to watch Vando on his 68lt speed stick blast through everyone like they were witches hats. can still hear his hooting in my head.

And as usuall we were all still around the bbq long after the sun had dissappeared. kruza brought the instant party with him that doubled the numbers. was good!

next meet will be at the beginning of june. we wil se what the wind and direction are before firming location up. (hopefully your ribs will be mended by then mikey100)

padi, don't convert our young guns. you already got enough on the darkside. [}:)]

nebbian, appreciate you making another long drive.

drjukka, i told qldsalty we call lota tiger alley. so i guess hobbie and qldsalty will be back at wello again in the NW.

thanks again everyone for joining in and the sponsor for making the day an event.

p.s. notwal. what are you on about? is that a typo?

p.p.s Curac, the guy on the front page of the wanderers website is a pro that i took some shoots of a while back at North Kirra. he has apparently moved to tasmania to get some massive down the line action and will soon be travelling up the east coast in search of the magic wave.
I also have the photo of the landing. he is actually in the banner photo on the website to. kind of a where's wally, you got to look real hard.

great! - better than i'd have expected. the only disappointing thing is that i missed the last 2 hours of footage when all the windsurfers were out there, because there was already too much on the camera's hard drive, and the day was overcast and so the video is a little dark. It's a bit hard to make out who's who, but definately still worth a look. I'll up the link to the youtube version tomorrow, but the 70mb version is much much better

too long for youtube

70 meg is a bit much for me.. have to wait till close to the end of the month to be sure I don't go over my limit

Is there a "highlights" version or just a super chopped down version so I can see what the quality is like?

thanks Mike, will do. I'll upload it overnight tonight.

It's 70mb, 500 x 370 resolution at 25 fps and runs for nearly 13 minutes.

I don't want to disappoint everyone, but unless you sailed within 5 to 10 metres of me it is highly unlikely you'll recognise yourselves because the lens makes everything appear further away than it really is, the wmv compression, plus it's overcast. I think you'll still enjoy it for the novelty factor. The DVD version is much better.

Nebs, I'll upload a 10 mb sample at the same specs so u can decide whether to download it or not

cheers

You ripper Haircut,

Sample looked good so I downloaded the 70 MB... stuff the quota

Amazing the quality you can get from those components. I guess you're now dreaming about how to get that next perfect shot Following people seems to be the key to getting decent footage I think.

Would be good to get some footage in waves as well.
