ok ok ok ...
There's this wave sailor I know who might be thinking about crossing over to the dark side (as a light wind alternative of course). What sort of second hand gear should he be looking at and what does it cost? Lessons worthwhile?

February troughs bring strange thoughts into a man's head.

Thanks to the rest of the windsurfing crew who contributed constructivley, makes you feel the gap isnt that large between us, this guy just advertised that he is either a try hard wanna be windsurfer or has a serious complex about his actual ability (non)

As an Ex windsurfer of 10 years with limited ability I can say that kitesurfing over the last two years has been much more fun, has allowed me to wavesail like i was never able to on a windsurfer and more than anything else has allowed me to get plenty of TOW - time on water! Sitting on beach waiting for wind to get up can get you down and I would guess that far more more windsurfers are not getting enough of it

See you out there ( if there is enough wind for you

Richi,
its good to see that there are sensitive people out there like you to equal out insensitive peoplee like me..
first i didn't say i thought the pain was funny, i don't it actually nearly ruins it for me. i don't think windsurfers think of kite danglers at the bad guys, maybe you feel guilty about kiting or something? :)
and since you kept on about the pain thing. its like this.. (story)
i read in the news. this guy got out of his car and went to take a piss while pissing he steped in a bunch of ants and they bit him he jumped about and fell down a 30m slope and got some cuts.. now that guy got hurt but that is still funny.

also it apears you don't know what you are talking about also.. you don't need a big wave to do a big jump.

i agree with you that we should just accept and get along. this would be easier if peeps like you stoped taking offence about everything.

also karma isn't affected by your thoughts only your actions.

ay relax guy, you have to see the funny side of things or you will go insane

Yes well its clear buy your statements you have a clear understanding of the human psyche, given that from what I said you can make out that I am a try hard wanna be windsurfer or I have a serious complex about his actual ability. But it’s just too bad that you don’t quite have a grasp on the English language. You should have noticed by the inclusion of things like heheheheh and each to there own, that I don’t actually have a problem with it, I was just trying to share some fun. Also by calling me an imbecile you have just advertised yourself as having some real issues with your own intelligence (wow it appears that we both totally understand the human psyche).

To the public*******

It is clear to me that my comments have annoyed a lot of you .. I do not apologise for them, but you may feel free to apologise to me.
This little community isn’t what I am looking for, you guys take offence to easily I wonder if anyone told you to fk off would you have a break down? Are you having a break down reading this?

The ******** are not in place of cussing I though I better put that in there since you guys are always looking for the worst.

Here is your glass .. Trust me its half empty

Here's my two cents.

I think the main issue that the majority of windsurfers would raise about kiting is the attitude of the kiters.
I know it's not all of them, and the ones who aren't tossers must cringe at what the majority of their colleagues carry on with.

It just seems that (nearly) every kiter considers themselves a pro or a world champion. They can't stop talking about what they do on the water, or what gear they have, etc, etc.
But the main thing is that they continually try to say how much better than windsurfing it is, and that windsurfing is dead blah blah blah. (The fact is that the number of windsurfers far exceeds that of kiters, and kiting is in it's honeymoon period).

The fact is that most of these guys were very mediocre windsurfers and that kiting was just an easy way out for them to get "good" at something a lot quicker. And it is easy. I had a go once, stood on the beach with it for about 1 hour, then went out into the water and had about 4 runs back and forth, only falling in twice. But that's a good point about kiting.

But now it's at a point where what they think is good, is just boring.
The few good guys (and I actually mean REALLY good) do make it look good.
The rest just strut around and hide the fact that they were/are scared of waves, and talk about flicky little rail grabs and other gay stuff. If that's what they're into then good for them, I don't care. But they should not show so much disrespect for another sport, which they were **** at to begin with which is the reason they left, and a sport who's participants did not ask for their opinion.

I think to say kiting compares to down the line wave sailing is a joke. Enjoy your sport for all its got to offer but don't say stupid things like that. We don't say that we can pull into barrels better than surfers can.

So in summary, both sports exist. Both are fun to whoever does them.
There is no anti-kiting thing going on in the windsurfing world. We couldn't care less what they do because it doesn't stop us windsurfing. But the attitude is pathetic. To those who are like that (and actually admit that you are), you look and sound like a dick. Everyone knows what is good, so if you are **** and are trying to claim something and/or bag out others then you just make it worse for yourself.
To those who are not dickheads, if you see one of your fellow kiters behaving like this, slap them across the back of the head because they are really giving you guys a bad image.
I can assure you, THAT is the main problem if there is one.
I have been windsurfing for many years and have never ever encountered that attitude from any other sailor (apart from one guy that comes to mind but we're in the process of shooting him).

I know plenty of kiters and some are good friends so I can tell the difference between the two camps.

Drop the attitude and you'll earn respect.

p.s and try to find an alternative to wearing shorts over your wetsuits. that and those baggy pants.....f**king shocking!

I dont think anyone should have to justify what they do or why they do it, as long as it keeps you smiling. As far as kiters raving about how good the sport is etc thats not attitude thats enthusiasm! So what! You only need to worry about the very rare few who may endanger others by jumping too close or whatever.

P.S Your comments would be much more credible without cheap shots about gay flick grabs etc..Sounds like your still trying to convince yourself.

Tell you what, I think the resistance to kiting is simply the difficulty of learning something new and money invested in windsurfing kit. Mastery? You must be kidding. I'd love to see just what sort of mastery these dudes who "spent a few hours flying a kite" achieved during their ordeal. There are plenty of difficult things to master in this lifetime. I've gone from surfing to windsurfing to kiting. Still love em all but kiting's all I think about. Especially how crowded its getting lately....

Which bring me to my point: kiting's crap. You're right, it's so easy and expensive it's hardly worth the bother. Stick to what you know. Because, in this case, what you don't know just may hurt you.

(Can we please get some wind, now? You call this wind? This isn't wind)

Sorry for Posting this topic, it's got a bit out of hand with the playing the man stuff. Too much aggro and disrespectful stuff for me. Thankyou for all of the serious contributions, light banter, and the invitations to be part of this community (by being generous and personable towards me, without knowing me).Particular thanx to Ranger, Tozza, Beer Bong, Leski, Retroboy, Greenroom, Ricki, and Silverback!!!!

Apologies to anyone I may have offended with my pathetic attempts at humour (Nut Bag) and sorry if I irritated some of you (Hoop). I had no right to use this site to relieve my boredom just because I was out of work, (Need to spend my time generating work or windsurfing).

Our sports are about action, enjoyment and friendships, Which is What I'll stick to, It's not about a talk fest, or over-analysing them, I think the negative stuff I've heard has taught me that, thanx.

My Mistake!
