state by state sounds fun.

The Alpha stuff looks great but I feel with my spectacular gybing technique I'm not going to pull any great speeds, it would be interesting to see what the crew who did the 1hr challenges what their Alpha speeds would be as it works out to exactly what they are doing.

I went through the pages a couple of days ago, I really like the concept and think it's great for the racing crew with they're sweet high speed gybes and for places which don't have a good downwind run.

Myself I still coming to grips with the turning without water starting so and still get excited when I complete a gybe standing up let alone come out of it planing.

These should allow enough categories that everyone can be competitive at something? However, prizes and trophies can only be limited, so either we choose one or two categories for Trophies eg. such as Team vs Team and State vs State, and an individual prize like a "sail" is drawn at random for just entering?

Is anyone prepared to set up a data base where this can be recorded, either Laurie here, but may be too much to ask of Laurie, as he has enough on his plate. Maybe the Windwarrior crew can add this to their site?

Yes Red or maybe a non dedicated speed class for all us poor people that can't afford to buy dedicated speed gear. Off-course sailing ability plays a small part on how fast we sail

I must say the time of the year is'nt the best for QLD and the sailing locations will be more limited, but anyway, I'm in if someone would have a slow poke like me in a team Sounds like a lot of fun

My thinking is as follows:

To keep it simple and in accordance with this site and Windwarrior site (They are volunteering to be one of the sponsors), I think Max GPS Display is what will be used.

In order to counter the Sandy Point Advantage (and whingeing......OH....It's not fair sandy point will win everything I'm not playing if their playing....), no prizes will be awarded for fastest GPS Display.

A prize or two should be awarded to the most improved Junior and Kiddie, Max GPS Display improvement from Date x to Date y

having second thoughts about trophies since people are complaining they will all go to Sandy Point (No wonder people don't want to organise events), so dump that idea.

Team vs Team concept and State vs State just has to be for fun, and personal bragging rights.

Inclusiveness, Participation, Fun, and Relationship Building are the main reasons for the challenge.

Those stats are a bit warped Craig (kato). Its true- the vics had to fly a west ozzie over to SP to get the fastest speed for the joint. Even their 2nd fastest speed is from another west ozzie who moved over there (Mal).

Wow our beer must be real good then, 800 southerners coming up here each week. Actualy if you look at Mal's profile on gps-speedsurfing his home spot is Golden beach Australia. That could be in QLD haha.

Was the word I was typing before I accidently posted.

As for competing - I think I will have to decline this year as I have a sizeable peice of calcium build up in my shoulder that needs to be removed and will require somewhere between 1-3 months of rehab (read - no sailing) Build up could be due to a major stack I had some time ago!!

May still be allright for the Sandy Point trip in Oct.

I think the "Keep It Simple" philosophy needs to win out here. Re GPS Max Display, it is simple, verifiable for every sailor after each run, no need for downloads, and The most respected speed sailor in Aus came up with some technical reasons for it. This is not the World Champoinship of speed, ISSR ratified, it's just for fun and participation.



The GPSSS is for the more serious and technically minded, so no need to duplicate what they are doing, if ya only wanna be deadly serious then stay with the GPSSS.

At this stage there hasn't been a huge amount of interest with only one team from WA and one team from NSW, and one victorian individual. If Sponsors wanna try and push it by advertising it more seriously, and get more interest, then I'll leave that to them.

I'll Preface Whatever I Say with the comment that I will be unable to sail for the next 2-3 months - due to the need to fix a chronic shoulder injury.

I have one word to describe what is required - RIGOUR.

IMHO - a couple of folks getting together to say they clocked a 38 or 40 on the GPS max just doesn't cut it.

You are either serious or you you are not. If you are looking for sponsors to kick in some money or 'kit in kind' then I think you are serious and as a 'sponsor' I would want to see some RIGOUR.

Vando has adjucated over a number of Windsurfing QLD events this year and has done a great job.

Now - given that I am demanding of RIGOUR I'm happy to put my hand up to anaylse whatever data that people will submit using Mal's RealSpeed - with the commitment to have data turned around within 7 days.

How do we get the greatest exposure for our sponsors?great prizes, Contact local clubs not everyone jumps on this forum that can be done via local sailers
How do we have maximum involvement from every eligible windsurfer in every state? lucky draw prizes are great, means that everyone has a chance of winning a prize. also running it in spring/summer when there are more people out on the water.

I,m happy to check data for Victoria if we ever get a team. I think Mathew will up for the challenge, but got to agree with Vando ,hold this challenge in eary spring/summer.Might get more people to have a go and it will give us some time to work out a way of making the challenge fair (negating the sandy point advantage)I think the gpsss system of 5 x10 sec ave works well and its easy to check.My 2cents worth
