The GPSSS site is the world's individual speed site and I encourage people to support it. However, there's no reason why the Aussies can't have their own site, where we all look and compare what we do here in Oz, coz that's not so easy on the GPSSS site. I understand that technologically it can be configured so individuals that input their data on the challenge site, could have this automatically input on the GPSSS site. We have been in contact with GPSSS about it but............ You can understand people being protective of thier own creations............ We need to build our own credibility, and foster a philosophy of expanding our sport and that it doesn't threaten anyone else?

Also if its technically possible, no reason why challenge site, can't be for both teams and individuals.

I think our 6 challenge categories, are not just about speed, but windsurfing skill (Alpha), and endurance (Distance), so in 2008, if people are still keen we could continue the teams challenge, and start an individual's challenge, just need to find sponsor/s? Will look at all that later on in the year.

i reckon you just have 1 table listing everyone in each category.

eg.

2sec peak NM distance
1st | 45kn / gestalt | 36kn / Vando | 300km / Nebbian | etc
2nd | 44kn / nebbian | 18kn / pierre | 10km / Fitz66 | etc
3rd | 30kn / mk | 15kn / haggar | 1km / gestalt | etc

or use the TeamSEQ spreadsheet....

A very good point. This is easy to do, since the data is already there.

What I'm after is for someone to come up with a good idea of how to present this data. Do we have 6 tables for individual results, the same way we currently have for team rankings? That way the top number in each category would be our "benchmark", and you could look at how you perform in relation to everyone else. Or do we only look at the 5x10sec average, the way that GPS-SS works things?

Come on, with all our combined talents surely someone can figure out the best way of presenting this data! Elmo? Decrepit? Someone else?

What about the same points system?

I would like to see all categories with best result for each (could be individual or team or both, in fact both would be a great idea,) and a link to the team session page where it occurred. (that will show the comments and perhaps an insight into the conditions it was achieved in)
Not sure how many other places are necessary, see how much room's on the page perhaps?
So that's a 6 column table like the sessions table, 2 rows per place (individual and team) looks like 5 places (10 rows) should fit.

But aren't they only interested in top speed, 2sec or something.

You can search on display max, 2sec, max 10sec, 250m, 500m.
But really all the data is there to do anything you want.

The GPSSS site is certainly not user friendly when it comes to finding aussie results, I just tried for 5 mins to find the aussie rankings, and no way that I could, so a computer illiterate imbecile like me would prefer to go straight to an aussie website. I'll try the addresses you guys have posted here, would be easy enough to favourite that, but I proved the point I had experienced before, not the world's most user friendly site.

The idea behind the GPS-Speed challenge is excellent. A national team based comp that includes at least one thing that GPS-SS does not yet (Alpha Racing). It is great to have a unique and different approach that complements GPS-SS for Aussies. Keeping it different will keep it relevant and fun.
I would strongly encourage all participants in the Aussie Team Challenge to post their sessions on GPS-SS as well. This is what we contatced GP-SSS about, we offered to have our website linked to theirs so people only had to post once, either ours and click a button and it automatically registered on GPSSSS or on GPSSS click a button and those that wanted thier stuff on GPS team Challenge could have it automatically transferred, this is what we got total silence on, they don't know us, so why should they, we weree very respectful in informing GPSSS of everything we were doing, amybe needs someone like you to be a go-bewteen/liaison officer?
There you can be part of the individual world rankings and a search can reveal your Aussie ranking. Hopefully this will get easier to use when they launch their site upgrade.

My only criticism of the Speed challenge is the use of fake names. Re names we have everyone's name, but some wanted thier Seabreeze names used hence........That is fine for a fun forum but I think the GPS-SS guys have it right for the speed rankings. Most of us know who is who in our local area and team but it is meaningless trying to look up speed Challenge participants in the GPS-SS rankings. I think for the challenge we should be using our real names.

Hardie and Roo, thats why I suggested deep-linking and/or an RSS feed -> we get the best of both groups, world stats and local stats. And it save Nebbian from having to build the stuff already available on GPSSS.

Hardie you have gone out of your way with GPSSS to no avail. Do what you need to do to grow and promote speedsailing in Australia. Unfortunately GPSSS has become a victim of their own success and are becoming irrelevant within the windsurfing industry. Many companies run their own speed contests in many countries with great success, the feedback I have heard from them is that GPSSS is too difficult to deal with and you have to do it their way. We need to find a way to make things simpler rather than complicate and confuse them. At the end of the day it's all about going fast, looking at your GPS and knowing just how fast it was. By having teams you have made it easy allowing sailors to send their tracks to their team captains to analyse and post. The best thing you could do would be online analysis of tracks, just upload them to the website and have an instant calculation of the speeds and individual posting of the results....that would be way cool!

My fault Kato, I should have started a new thread, but I was interested in a link to the top alpha team result, rather than having to troll thru all the session/ranking pages, and thought if we do alpha might as well do all of them.
Since then it's deviated even more into individual rankings/comp.

This is confusing things a lot, I think there are about 3 different discussions going on here all tangled up together!!!

So lets separate the discussions about individual rankings/challenge, and if that should be posted/linked to gpss, from providing a page with best results from each team challenge category

Feeling guilty about Co2 Kato? Just worked out how much a trip from the ACT to the coast releases - 75kg! phew, I'm cutting back in winter, car's on blocks.

If you put in a blinder you'd want to post on both forums. gpss isn't all that hard. The team based format here seems to have a lot going for it. Just not too many speed sailors in the ACT. Anyone out there? I've got a spare GPS unit you can borrow. We'll start again 1st day of spring.
