The buttons on the Navi stick up and seem to stick to the vinyl. Do you guys have any trouble with random button events? I was wondering if it would be a good idea to protect the buttons in some way.

As Elmo says, I'm using a piece of foam rubber 4cm thick, I've used it on about 3 sessions without a problem.
I had thought about some sort of washer, but keeping it in place seemed a problem.

What I did this afternoon, (no wind and all) found some packing styrene, and carefully cut a window for the screen and a groove for the toggle, on/off and LED, thick enough to have toggle below surface. cut it same size as NAVi, and held in place by two large office type aeroplane engines (big lackey bands)
Slips into aqua pack no problem.
Decrepit, like your idea, styrene will probably start to crumble after a bit of my treatmentwill see what we have in that line at work tomorrow, that I can use

Hardy started me of with the rope round my neck.
Elmo kindly pointed out, that in a bad catapult if the rope happened to tangle in the boom, -- you could strangle or loose your head!!!!
Since then the rope goes round my arm.

Perfect, just slid it into the aqua pack, and NAVi rest up against it, bit at the base so it doesn't flop about

you could sew some of the hook part of velcro on the inside of the arm band so it catches on the wetsuit nylon.

I use a foretrex in an aquapac. The velcro strap on those is really long so I have it wrapped around my spreader bar. It doesn't foul the hook at all and it's super easy to look down and see it whilst sailing. Plus it makes the whole thing totally floatable so if by some weird and bizarre circumstance it does get ripped off in a wipeout it won't be too hard to spot it floating nearby.
