I love seeing my daily data, my teams data and what everyone else gets where they go. I've met plenty of legends, gained friends, built local ws group, beaten and been beaten on and off the water, laughed at , with and at again. I would hate to loose this from my overall ws life. No I would die if it goes but life with seems so much easier. Include all where possible. Relive the stoke again while bashing the tiles making up your account of the day.
Its awesome Hardie & team

Gps team challenge is awesome, brings the windsurfing community together. Hardie and the Team do a great job. I have never had any issues with what is gpstc. The Rules are fair and clear. Get yourself an approved device or don't join. If joined and you find it hard to follow rules or play well with others, Leave. Save yourself the embarrassment of being kicked out. Why don't you disgruntled few leave gpstc, start your own if you have the ability. It's always the minority's that ruin the fun for the majority.

First time posting in GPS section. Just want to add my support to the GPSTC as it runs. You can't keep every one happy all the time. People who seem worried about the cost of the device could think about how much proportion it is of their overall WS spending. Also, it's not like there is any association fee that anyone is paying to the creators of the challenge. I mean, I play soccer and that is about $500 a year just to join the comp. Most other organised comps will have a fee, so just having to fork out for a watch that meets requirement is no unreasonable and I was happy to do so even though I'm not even that competitive. I really hope it continues, and I hope that people who have issues with it don't leave, just stay involved but get some perspective.

Name and shame for what exactly - suggesting changes to make the GPSTC more inclusive?

If anyone's "ruining it for everyone" it's those who are unable to comment without adding personal abuse.

Pick me! Pick me!

A few people pointed out the obvious flaws to inclusiveness of a system that requires devices that are difficult to procure and/or unreliable on a forum that is separate to the GPSTC. This has been going on for some time and they have previously been dismissed/ignored by those in control and could have again..... except it turns out the "minority" supporting their views is not as minor as anyone thought! Perhaps they should be thanked as nobody would have known this had they not complained?

At this stage the changes being made are unknown to the general public, so it remains to be seen if the GPSTC will be more inclusive or less inclusive.

Should I expect a tar and feathering?

I can assure you Firie, everyone won't be happy!

Trying to achieve that, given how opposed the views are, is a thankless task.
Hopefully, the changes will be acceptable to most.

Mike I hear Fangy has a new GPS based on the chip log will this be acceptable?

The 'Chip Log' apparatus consisted of a small weighted wood panel that was attached to the reel of rope, and a time measuring device: a half-minute sand glass (as shown in image below to the right.) Rope had knots tied at equal distances along the reel. Sailors would throw the wood panel into the sea, behind the ship, and the rope would start unwinding from the reel. The faster the ship was moving forward the faster the rope would unwind. By counting the number of knots that went overboard in a given time interval, measured by the sand glass, they could tell the ship's speed. In fact that is the origin of the nautical speed unit: the knot.

Only if the sand in the timer contains no boznium.

Whoa, you fellas, don't drag me into this, I don't want Fairiebob on my doorstep offering me a hug!
But just as an aside, brilliant diagram Boz, now I can see the problem I was having... I thought I was the 'weighted end' to be tossed overboard. I will get cracking on Version 2. Oh, and don't worry about SDOP. I am pretty sure you can just buy it off the shelf as a nutritional supplement these days. It's next to the Horny Goat Weed if I recall correctly, or was it the Memory Boosters....

Must be the big guns Garmin and Sunato buying up SDOP forcing us to use there products without SDOP, it's a plot against the GPSTC, conspiracy?

Maybe I'll figure out how to add SDoP to rope, that should be cheap enough for everybody.

Hardie, whatever you decide, stand proud at how your vision, patience and determination has transformed the windsurfing scene world wide to bring us all together. Any community has detractors and wastrels in, and they're typically the noisiest. But they're entirely outnumbered by those of us who have nothing but love, admiration and respect for what you've done.

I have new friends because of GPSTC. Whatever happens, I just wanted to say thanks.

There is no winner and no prize in GPSTC - as others have said it's always been about meeting like minded people and having a bit of fun.
Any time on the water (and the before and after) is a good time.

I first posted in Dec 08, and the camaraderie started from day 1.

From Aug to Dec 2010 I ran the "Ashes Windsurfing Series" between teams from Aust and England as the Poms were coming out for a cricket test series. Each month was a Test - and of course we won because there was a white-out for most of Dec in England .
As in 'Yes Prime Minister' - you never have an inquiry unless you know what the result will be!

To me, that was all it was meant to be and has been - a tool to add to the thrill of windsurfing.
cheers
Peter
