Now there's a point. what about the international date line???'
Do we work Australia's date, or the place you sail???
ie you could be sailing at exactly the same time as your mates, but the gps would say a day earlier.

So have we got a disputes committee? Do we need one, or should we all have a vote?
Probably not likely this will happen, but it would be good to agree in case it happens.

I can't make up my mind whether it should be same time or same date.

Not at all, we're on your side, (remember it's a state contest!)
And the dateline thing shouldn't be an issue with slowboat, there's only about 5hrs difference.

It's when somebody goes to somewhere like Hawaii, that's getting close to a day different.
Does somebody over there have to sail on the same date, ie a day later, than his mates in Aus, or does he have to sail on the same Aus day, with his GPS showing one day earlier.
I'll start a new thread instead of burying this in here.

For a social competition things are starting to really get serious.

On that point what is the consensus on dropping slower times from a days sailing? The challenge as i understand it disapproves of only the fastest sailors times being submitted. The reason i raise this point is that i have heard from a very reliable source that my fellow qlders are ommitting their slow sailors from their sessions.

Personally i don't give a rats razoo how each team goes about their business. Its not in the spirit of the competition, and i think that messrs hardie and nebbian would be disappointed that their brain child may evolve to a no-holds barred event.

I personally like the way the guys have set things up and i encourage my fellow competitors to be honest to themselves and embrace the spirit of this challenge and the sport in general.

If my source is proven to be incorrect and my comments have been considered to be inappropriate then i appologise in advance for any harm that such comments may cause. It is not my intention to antagonise but highlight an action that is perceived by myself and i trust others as not embracing the spirit of the challenge.

I no doubt expect a bit of flak over this, thats cool - but if you do not know me then i would appreciate a minimum of personal attacks because they only belittle yourself.

i agree dam71. if that is what is happening then it's a bit sad.

one thing for sure is that it isn't teamSEQ. i think we figured out early that to wn you just gotta enter.

Hey Dam71,

The way the site is set up now everyone should be able to post their own times. So if a sailor is a bit slow, and the captain decides that their time won't be entered, then that sailor can still enter their own time behind the captain's back.

The "My Data" pages show your own progress, and I believe that this is an incentive for everyone to record every day they go out sailing. That way on those calm Saturday afternoons, or those boring days at work, they can have a quick gander at the times and remenisce about that howling 30 knot SE session where they broke a boom, or that sunny 15 knot day where they clocked up 80 k's, or [insert fond memory here].

In the end the competition is aimed at having fun, and getting people on the water more, and to that end I think it's succeeded Well done Hardie

i agree fully with dam71,dropping the slowest sailors to keep the averages up is DEFINETLY not in the spirit of the competition as far as i am concerned
if that was the case i wouldnt get a look in with my fellow team mates...besides we arent competing for sheep stations..are we??

as for Hardie i propose a truce, i realise it was foolish to ever cross swords with you besides that i still want to come down and sail on your beloved speed strip (hows that for a suck up)

Excellent suck up!!! Truce Accepted!!!!!

Re: Challenge Spirit.

As for the spirit of the competition, it is written in the rules, though I'm not going to be a Nazi and have an inquisition about it. People will have to live with their own consciences about breaking the rules. At one level it's understandable, to want to post your best possible performances to be competitive and be frustrated when they are dragged down because of less capable performances. So it isn't a crime against humanity, no one has been murdered or raped. However, it will cause aggravation for those that are keeping to the spirit of the competition, so best to keep within the spirit.

I think it has identified one of the problems with the challenge, in that the concept of inclusiveness and relationship building which I think are extremely important, have a cost to them, and that cost being the true dedicated serious speedsters are disadvantaged by this. Therefore I propose 2 divisions next year, and you nominate before you start.

Remember, This is the first year of the comp, and as I said it's a test year, not to be taken too seriously. I think the way to overcome this next year, is to have the aforementioned 2 Divisions, where you nominate for either Serious Competion Division, or the Social Competition Division, I'm sure the Brilliance of Ben can accommodate this on the website.

There probably needs to be an allowance for this, the serious boys and girls need to be able to express themselves in this way. However, as the philosophy is inclusiveness the average social sailor also needs to be able to be part of it, and express that side of it aw well. So this year we're all in it together in the one division, all getting a taste for it, and the feedback I've got so far is most people are rapt in the concept.

So I reckon if anyone is going against the spirit, ask your conscience if this "is this the right thing to do?", and realise that your high competitive nature will be accommodated next year, so be patient.

As an after thought, as Some teams/bonds/relationships have now formed, so we may have the same team submitting a sub-team in each division next year. Mandurah Mob A, Mandurah Mob B, so a team/club atmosphere can still exist and encouragement for participants in each division?

The best idea ever submitted to seabreeze is this comp, open to any gun, or hack () with the intent that its opening the competitive Aussie spirit to any person who wants to play It has also drawn the attention of ex-pats and others outside Aus, who have hinted that they too want to play
Hardie and Nebs, right now you have scored full points, just for the effort of everybody who wants too, can look, learn and have the odd at each other. Take into account right now, most of us didn't know a Garmin or a NAVi existed up til a month or so back
DAM71, we wouldn't have a go at ya, what for, your in the mix with the rest of us, and putting up some good view pointsand the crew will work it out so we can just see how we are running against like wise talented. (in my case, that level is that far down, don't reckon a few could see it from their spot)
So Hardie, when I eventually get down there, I will sport you a cupatea, Elmo said that's all your allowed.
