Thankyou, but no joy I'm afraid; Slowy and I did the dawn patrol but the breeze was only 10-12 knots and dropping.

The sad part is that last night between 8pm and midnight, wind and tide would have been absolutely perfect, but alas, no light!

I'm peering out at leaden skies over Tullamarine Airport as I type this, heading back to sunny Perth with nothing but a serious excess baggage bill, in and out! Thankyou Qantas & Virgin!

Must be a lot of wind go past Sandy Point after dark. An expensive option, but maybe not relative to all the other expenses of a speed sailor, but to be a member of the exclusive Sandy Point Speed club you should be required to purchase, maintain and deploy a fully rugged marine wind generator.

Only $1790, 70 watts at 25 knots. Would run two 35 watt marine floodlights - only $29.95 ea.

20 members could light the strip at 40 metre intervals. A very good gust indicator with the lights hitting good brightness at 25 knots.

Just an idea, I'm not even an early morning sailor.

Checked out that website Kato, they do look impressive.


Could also be handy for our late arriving easterlies, we were pushed for daylight quite a few times this year.
