Hi community - some of you may have heard of our mate Daffy having a bit of an issue in the last few days.

The brief summary is -> a fire was his windsurf-trailer. It and all the windsurf contents, burnt to a crisp.

I'm just posting here to let everyone know that he is fine - save for a few close calls with too much heat. Its a story. I wont go into it - I'll leave it for him to share or not-share.

Some of us have asked if we can do anything - the simple answer is, Andrew would appreciate it but would prefer to not fuss too much. He has some sails and boards - if you would like to donate an unused mast-base or something simple, that would be nice. If you think you might have say a 120L iSonic or some unused masts, send him a message.

Some of us have suggested a GoFundMe/etc. Andrew would prefer not. Though I am sure if you offered him a dinner, he might be persuaded to accept it

Not a Lithium battery, but an AGM shorting on the frame after some really severe bumps in the road.

I can assure everyone, that windsurfing stuff, and aluminium checker plate, burns really well and really hot!!

7 windsurfing boards (one was a friends). 10 sails. 16 masts. 25 or so weed fins. 3 carbon booms. Harnesses's. 4 or 5 mast extension and bases. x 2 Epoxy/carbon waveskis. etc. The stuff we accumulate!

So take note people!
For future reference, battery needs to be in a tough wooden box, if there's any chance of it shorting.

Luckily the motor bike didn't fit onto the new trailer. Looks like the old trailer's going to get a rebirth. Anyone with some Atomic fins that aren't going to LG this year maybe Daffy can take them for a play. That's where mine are going this year.

I'm so sorry to read about this Daffy, a windsurfers nightmare, months/years of tuning kit....... gutted for you.

Hopefully an importer/dealer can step forward to help out with kit on an ambassador/team rider basis or something.

I got my fingers crossed that insurance covers some of this.

Sadly no insurance and I don't think anyone has any the would cover this at a price we could afford . It's 6k just 6K in weed fins alone

yep. Not much. Apparently the trailer was covered for up to $1000 on the car policy, but insignificant damage to the car and $1000 excess on a claim, so nothing that helps there.

I had just one board in the trailer listed on my home and contents that should be covered. Nothing else. But at least thats something. This might be a good reminder to check your policies.

A big thanks to all the awesome people who have expressed sympathy and offered to help. I am humbled and appreciative. Things will be a bit different from now on, but I will be back sailing soon with this great community for sure!

Whatever you need for another $100 or so with Youii. It's just included in your contents.

You wanna check that..... usually specified portables caps out at $2K or $5K etc so total loss like Daffy's would pay out fark all. You have to pay tons more.

I was just asking someone the other day if it's possible to go fast as a lightweight. note Daffy he said.
Not met you Daffy but you are an inspiration. Even in this colossal mishap you seem to be handling it.
I could not imagine. So gnarly.

I'm going to check but I've asked them multiple times saying c $ 30,000 plus gear and they say you just take that amount from your contents. I increased the content amount to cover it.

I am in Lake George until Friday early morning.
I live relatively close to Daff so can drop the board off on my return home.

I've been in touch with NRMA insurance in the past week about changing our house insurance which is nearly up for renewal to cover portable contents separately from general contents, specifically sporting equipment incl windsurf gear and mountain bikes as well as portable electronic devices, and they indicated they would cover whatever amount we chose, though the premium for portable contents is higher obviously due to the extra risk
