I went to VP on the strength of the forecast. So did Albert. The wind seemed to be picking up at about 3.30 so we rigged up wondering if we were going to be overpowered when the 25 knots arrived. We not only rigged but we ventured into the water just so we would be well and truly ready when it blew. We needn't have worried. We weren't overpowered. The whole time we were out there was barely enough wind to hold a sail up - not even enough for a helitack. It was a wind you could piss into with impunity.
I would have said it was a great day for flying but there were a couple of ultra-lights there one of which got air borne. Apparently you need a tiny bit of head wind for a successful launch. The pilot of the other tripped and put his head through his wing while trying to run in a attempt to generate sufficient apparent wind for a take off.

Here I sit broken hearted
Rigged and wet and can't get started

Meteorologists - would you let your daughter marry one? I don't think so.

Hey NotWal, hc,

Indeed, a sad day! Around 8am I went surfing in Currumbin and planned to go windsurfing afterwards. But, surfing was the one and only fun I had today. It picked up a little bit around 11am. So, I drove up to ChooChoo. No one there :( Barely remembered that some folks wanted to go to VP. Drove there, no one there :( Well, except the ultra-light guy (... and flatwater :( )

Guys, we need to do some kind of wind-dance. Well, they do it in China:

Ok, now I'll dance for tomorrow.

Could someone give me a bit of advice regarding tides at VP. What's the minimum tide for a beginner sailing a big board (148L) with a big fin? Also, what tide prediction should I be reading - Brissie or GC? I assume the tide predictions are pretty accurate but last time I popped down to VP I must have gotten it very wrong as the shore had receded 50m or so!

Thanks

Hi MattD, sorry cannot help you with what prediction to read. Generally, VP is pretty shallow and you would need to carry your board a few meters to deep water. But all that should not prevent you from spending some nice time with us on the water. See you out there ...

I got on the water at viccy point at 3pm after the rain went through, it cleared up, started to blow, and it was a pretty solid 18-20+ knots pretty much till we packed up at 5.30. Great to finally get some decent wind.
