the funny thing about wello is that in the late seventies and early eighties when i used to sail there, the beach was massive and would stretch out level from the large expanse of grass in front of the car park for 100+metres.

the catamaran club would meet every sunday and have 40 or more hobies and the same number of us windsurfers would also rig on the beach and the place was packed with families.

the council has a lot to answer for in terms of preserving "the reserve"

one council fine collectors wage could pump a lot of sand and replace a lot of grass and turn the foreshore back to multisport user and family friendly.

i reckon it would be sick to see what it was once like. My parents still rave about the good old days at wello when it was windsurfing central for brisbane.

And to close off my part in this: just spoke with the council officer I spoke to on Sunday, and it's no fine, and us windsurfers are a-OK on the grass @ Wello (reconfirming Simon's discussion yesterday).

gday boys, dont fire up i am a kiter the local bloke in the silver landrover, just looking over that local law 15 book, couldnt find anything even closesly related to kiting there

(1) Whilst in a park or reserve a person must not:
(a) Litter, dump, throw away or otherwise distribute any waste material,
paper, fruit skin, bottle, tin or rubbish of any kind, except into a
receptacle provided by Council for that purpose; or
(b) Deposit or dump any vegetation, garden clippings, tree prunings,
building materials, fill or spoil; or
(c) Deposit, store or abandon any goods or vehicles; or
(d) Beach, repair, paint or otherwise maintain a boat or any motor vehicle
except in an areas specifically set aside for that purpose; or
(e) Discharge a firearm or other weapon; or
(f) Throw a stone, projectile or other missile; or
(g) Behave in a riotous, disorderly, indecent, offensive, threatening or
insulting manner; or
(h) Engage in any activity which would be likely to injure or endanger the
person; or
(i) Engage in any activity which would be likely to injure, endanger,
obstruct, inconvenience or annoy any other person in a park or
reserve; or
(j) Otherwise do any act which injures, pollutes fouls, litters or defaces the
park or reserve of any facility within the park or reserve; or
(k) Carry out an activity prohibited in a local law policy.
Maximum penalty – 50 penalty units.

just trying to shed some light on the situation, becuase theunderlined parts are the only i can see and in my opinion that could cover anything from kiting to people throwing a tennis ball, bit of descrimination between the two sports, dotn you agree?

and yeah i see what your all saying about the odd kiter, but 99% of the time its a travelling bloke or bird that hasnt talked to any locals about finding out about conditions or rules

yeh thats what i was thinking i couldnt find it either, might have a yarn to the bloke when i see him tomrow, not that he would care that much for 14 an hour
