No play equipment unfortunately Justin. Just seats, showers, and a big tree. There's pretty good picnic spots tho at the northern end and up on the hill there.

just got word from the family that they will also be attending the meet. i've had a couple of emails from others as well about non windsurfing family so i'll bring some extra food for the bbq.

Welcome to QLD.

beginners are always welcome at the windwanderers meets. throughout the year we have both lightwind and high wind meets, we do err on the side of highwind meets and we cover lots of locations that provide flat water right through to small waves. if you decide to join in i am also sure you will find it fun and also find lots of advice to help you improve and have fun if you want that.

the members cover a broad range of skills from beginners right through to experts.

todays meet was a high wind intermediate to advanced meet. 20-30 knots and 3-4 foot swell. turned out to be a fantastic event that also saw a few new members join in.

the club is purley social. we are non competitive and are very cruisey, basically the meets are a chance to sail with other like minded people, try out new locations and have a bbq. so no old school racing to be seen. the only competitive meet we hold is a speed comp up at burrum heads in march which is a party as much as a competition.

next meet will be the xmas party, we are still deciding on the location but keep an eye out on seabreeze where we will announce the details. we usually hold the meets every 5-6 weeks. so the xmas party will be in the first week of january most likely.

i wanted to clarify your point,

if someone joins the windwanderers there are no additional cost to attend the meets throughout the year other than the speed comp at burrum. you just turn up and enjoy the day.

Also if someone joins the wanderers they will also be entitled to enter in other qld clubs events if they choose as the memberships are reciprical throughout the qld clubs. the same if someone joins the wave or slalom clubs, they are automatically entitled to join in with the wanderers events.

some events though, like slalom racing and or some wave comps plus the speed comp at burrum, may require an additional entrance fee to be paid to cover the cost of infrastructure needed to hold the events.

at the end of the day though we are talking $40 social membership to join the wanderers for the year and that is the total costs.

some of that lightning looked a tad close. great to see you back on the water mate. will hopefully come up to redcliffe again over xmas and enjoy the wind.

The after party wrap up

Well it seems that the Wanderers and "epic weather events" go hand in hand.

the day was a mixture of 20-30 knot winds, hail storms, lightning and plenty of rain.
with a few dead wind patches in between. we started the meet with sunshine and 20 knots blowing cross shore with 3-4 foot swells wrapping into the bay. around 20-25 people turned up to enjoy queens north and it seemed that we got queens on a good day.

around 2pm, we all got off the water as a hail storm and lightning came over. luckily the bbq was already on the go so it seemed like good timing. with the storm over and the food eaten we all hit the water again for the post lunch session, an hour later and it was on again as another lightning storm rolled through forcing us up onto the green strip to wait it out.

after this a few of the crew packed up and headed off on the the drive home. those that stayed were then gifted a superb session of sunshine and 30 knots. with the wind just getting stronger as the sunset approached. by the time i was leaving i was struggling to hold the boards on the roof and the guys still on the water were looking like rigging down would be the best option.

cheers to all that came and joined in and big thanks to the new members on the water. also a big thumbs up to Tobias, he popped his forward loop cherry at queens and the grin said it all.

Great spot! will definately drive up again when the wind blows.

I've never sailed up that way, but was recently at Queen's on a shoot and it looked pretty nice.

I always thought redcliffe was jellyfish city?? man I hate those suckers. reminds me of botany. ewwww.

haven't seen jellys of any kind in the broadwater for a couple of years either. Just a very few of these small clear ones this year that I've never seen before. I also remember seeing pea soup thick blue flubbers in the channells in early 2000s
