Raced the new Wally LT at Cootharaba in twenty knots plus, and beat all but two of the techno's and that was after making two big mistake's.
Racing was eventually called off due to too much wind. Drag racing back and forth is a lot different to tactical racing around a proper triangle course too.
Oh, and like Justin said; The only thing that hold's me back in those wind's is fitness (Lack of).

What about the old ones that are being referred to by ishoukaty 6? Not the new ones.

Yep. Neil from Yamba is a great Wally sailor. He was on the previous One Design and beat me the next day, and completed one more race than me (once again, fitness). He would have done well the first day, but broke a centerboard. Pete Delet loaned him one the second day.
The 9.5 Raceboard's were definitely faster, and on a larger course, but still beat the 7.5's.

Might be a couple of week's yet mate.
Live it up everyone. I'm still not fit for windsurfing, and I've got a brand new boat.
So you can guess it'll blow it's arse off now!

How can ya have a new toy and not unwrap it immediately.
Tony picked his up from my place on Friday and Pete's got another one here for when he get's back.
Can't wait till I stop running out of breath and get out there.
What's going on down that way? We're Keen to get the crew up here to come down and meet the Vicky Point Rogues.
How do we make it happen. Looong way to drive if no one want's to play. Pete said he had a couple of responses. Can we get a proper list of
e-mails, so that we can all get on the same page?

Why don't you all meet half wayish at RQ and do a couple of races one saturday afternoon as casual entries.

Another new W LT hit the water on the weekend. First time on a sail board in strong wind for 20 years and had a blast. The thing gets going OK in a bit of breeze and managed to surf a few swells. Keen to meet up again once I get some roof racks.

I had a kite after and I dont know where the kiters get the idea that's windsurfers are for older guys as my arms are stuffed and it feels twice the strength is needed to go out in the same wind.

One interesting development that has surfaced from racing Original Windsurfers against newer technology boards is that the Original Windsurfer can compete very well, and sometimes win against newer and more expensive equipment with sails that are up to 40% larger. And you can do so much more on an Original Windsurfer than just go back and forth.

The last paragraph needs clarification to which boards your competing against and what else are you doing on your one design besides going back and forth and freestyle??????

In medium to fresh steady winds, especially when reaching, almost any newer board is faster than a Windsurfer, and by a long way. But it's not always those conditions.

In light and shifty winds, even the RBs can struggle to beat the Windsurfer, which can tack so much fastr. And in very strong winds, the boards with big sails can struggle when the 5.7 is manageable. Of course, other boards can reach knots faster but many of them can only be sailed in steady winds of 10 knots + so comparing them to a Windsurfer is like comparing a F1 car to a rally car - both are great but one of them sacrifices speed for versatility.

As an example, take the last three "marathons" I competed in against other boards. A bunch of years back on Botany Bay, the Windsurfers were hammered by FW, Slalom and RB gear on a reaching course in medium winds. There was no comparison - the other boards were knots faster. In a race around a Gippsland Lakes island a couple of years later, a sailor in the top 10 in GPS speedsailing world rankings was beaten by two Wallies in 28 knots of breeze. Roll forward a few years and the next time I know that a Wally raced an "open" in Victoria, it took the honours in the North Sails marathon clearly in about 6 knots of breeze on a reaching course.

This weekend there was no comparison between the LTs and the RBs sharing the course in medium breezes - the RBs were much quicker. In light and shifty stuff the faster LTs looked OK against the slower RBs, and when it came in at 25 knots+ the top LTs had a ball planing home while top-class RB sailors couldn't get their 9.5s out of the water. In 15-20 knots, given equal sailors, there's no comparison - the RBs, FW and probably T293s are much quicker.

The RBs and FW are fantastic, and most of the time they are knots quicker. At the extremes, the Wally can be very competitive.

So the northern NSW LT sailors (all four or so of us, plus an OD or two) are keen for some racing against the SEQ mob. Anyone have any idea where and when?

I keep putting forward dates.

lt stays wrapped because I surfed last week. Rode the week before and yesterday took the shortboard out. So many options...

Pete mentioned that you said the weekend of the 14th was good for down there, but look's like I'm stuck with plan's too now.
Still not sure if I'll be recovering still either.
That being said; Chris, we'll have to organise something soon. There's a few of us real keen.
Soon as I'm back on the water I'll start trying to get in contact with people interested.
Contact's would be good. It seem's like that's what we're still missing.
I have Neil's from Yamba, and I know he's keen. Are there a few who might not follow Seabreeze?

I have images of rocks when thinking of Vicky Point, is there sand or a beach to launch from?. Sorry never sailed there so don't know the area. Don't want to damage the duco on the New board.

victoria point has 2 locations.

the southern side is thompsons beach. it's all sand, plenty of parking, toilets, bbq's. onshore in a SE, crosshore with NE.
the northern side is point halloran, sand/mud, a few rocks, no facilities. onshore in a northerly.

the other spot is peel st redland bay. sand/sandy mud. plenty parking, facilities. cross shore in a SE wind. onshore in a NE. possibly better wind than thompsons.

Have the tentative dates for Wally States been firmed up at all? I have had my LT out a couple of times now and I like it. I wear shoes due to the rocks/critters here and I think that suits the slippery-ish rail well. Be keen if possible to make the trek south for States
