Or Kent Reserve?

Dear Terri,
Why not Kent Reserve or West Lakes?
Both areas have playgrounds and facilities. What area would you suggest and what features of an area would make you comfortable?

Anyway. No-one said windsurfing was easy. This event is supposed to be for girls who want to learn. That requires effort. A lot of effort. We are happy to help in any way we can, teach what we know, encourage effort. We are all still learning. Often we sail in places that are NOT easy. Carry gear down cliffs, get catapaulted, swim in shark infested waters, climb over rocks, get smashed by waves and have to swim for the gear. Either you want to learn, or you don't.

shallow water is good, but not when the fin gets stuck and one gets catapaulted over the front. Both Kent Reserve and West Lakes have toilets and playgrounds. I believe someone mentioned a barby, so shops not so necessary but are close to both places. We are bringing life jackets, but please remember this is a social event, come and learn at your own risk, and take advantage of the offer of social lessons and gear without cost.

I am new to this and starting to loose interest, pick a nice easy spot that I can bring my kids. Not Kent reserve or West Lakes. Do some research.

We have done some research probably 30 years of windsurfing research around sth aus - that is why we cannot find a shallow water location for newbies as Milang is drying up, goolwa has dried up and where we held a begginers day at westlakes in December (Tirrana way) was quite successful (and no one drowned - thanks to great support from the experienced sailors, floatation vests and great floaty wide boards.

Kent reserve has a great playground, toilets and has flat water inside - and if blowing sthly you get blown back to the beach - Nthly is not an option here for learning.

I think we would all have concerns over anyone learning to windsurf if they couldn't swim as with any water sport this puts everyone involved at risk.

We are keen to have people involved but they must consider their own abilities, safety and the must also consider the safety of everyone else

I think swimming lessons would be the first on the list. Then buy yourself a flotation device and a helmet. If you are still interested in coming along, you will be learning a great new sport but at your own risk.

Keen to bring daughter along to event. Is learning and would really enjoy hooking up with other females. West Lakes is good if there are a couple of paddle craft around to rescue people. I used to take a paddle and a spare long board. When in trouble the beginner would paddle back and I sail back. Worked well. I learned at Tirrana way 20 years ago along with about 50 others. We had a great time.

divaldo, I made a post on this thread trying to give some friendly positive advice about the deteriorating sailing conditions at Milang (I should know I live up the road) and all I got for my trouble was to be shat on by you and Susie and others. The joke is people claim to be here to create and grow the windsurfing community yet it seems all people really want to do is **** on others.
Susie is a big hypocrite attacking my comments then to go on and say:
“No-one said windsurfing was easy. This event is supposed to be for girls who want to learn. That requires effort. A lot of effort. I was warned by other windsurfers that I should not post here because it is full of idiots. I should have listened.
No wonder windsurfing is dying it seems so many windsurfers just want to put others down.
Unfortunately, due to the dropping water levels the only 2 places to sail on the lakes are Goolwa and Boggy II. For my experience Boggy II is the best due to waist deep water and no crap in the water. It seems I have been proven right. I am sure as you have just proved no one here is big enough to admit that and say sorry for the **** you gave me. I think you should take up kiting least it will give windsurfers a better reputation.

OK, I am going out on a limb here.....

IN MY OPINION I DONT THINK BOGGY II IS A GOOD PLACE TO LEARN TO WINDSURF!
Granted, it has waist deep water, consistant wind and has a nice gassy rigging area, it IMHO is not the best place to have a clininc for the ladies to teach other ladies to sail. As was proved with out kids day prior to christmas, having close access to the toilets, shops and easy to access water was a plus for all 25 people that rocked up.

I am sorry if we offended you Legless, was all a bit of fun and rolling of the eyes, lets all move on.

Going off the topic slightly re: Milang. I sailed their this week with Sam D and smashed, firstly, a freshly repaired fin by Sam that was damaged at Milang last time i sailed. A couple of days later i damaged my sl7 25cm fin on my speed board and Sam smashed his 25cm sl7 fin and his f2 xs missile now has a nasty hole in the bottom. Just a note to windsurfers to stay away at this point. It is dangerously shallow and has concrete, rocks and star droppers all over the place. I think the spot is great to sail with all comodities but is not worth bodily damage to sail.

Shark infested waters? Not seen one in SA in my 25 years. Seen a few blind mullets.....

Can i just ask whats wrong with Rakines landing??? cafe, toilets, massive rigging area, nothing to hit in the channels (unless your in real close near the coral). Banks to pull up on either side, if you drift downwind just walk back up. Only down side i can think of is the longer drive. However for us (probably you to dave) its only an extra quater hour or so than west lakes.

Well its been set now anyway so no troubles. Also boggy is a great spot dave, cant see why you dont like it, just bit little remote i guess ha ha. the old one was even better but unfortunatley its all gone!!!

Wife and daughter (Lee-Anne and Alex) would love to catch up with some other women and go windsurfing but unfortunately they are committed to a camp up the river with 40 kids and a lot of windsurfing gear from Glascraft.

Not sure how much gear will be left over to help out but I'm sure Muzza will do his best.
