Yep! 100km or so would be a good challenge! LOC is good fun but too short for competent sailors.

Bet your bottom dollar I'd smash every one of you on a kite.

I could even start an hour behind you guys, use a smaller kite and still trickle in for a podium finish.

Izymiester is the shire keen on us kiters ? We would make it more of a spectators event!

Or you could do it on a jet-ski and do it even faster.

Sometimes even when you win you're still a loser...

Ouch. Got to expect that coming onto a windsurfing forum talking about kiting : )

Sounds like a great event, hope it goes ahead for you guys/girls.

that would be the best windsurfing race on earth. Downwind for 100km on smoking flat water. Last time I was up there blasting with Ado on a not so windy afternoon (maybe 22-25kts) I was cruising at 38knots+ on most runs. Its like Hardies but much much nicer with longer runs, steadier breeze, and warmer water. Imagine the 1-hour averages... Not for the feint of heart but plenty of people are clocking over 100km in a session, and up there its pretty easy water.

I reckon....

slalom with 2km reaches, at 90deg to wind.
out n back 25 times.

3 classes:
Open - race / slalom gear
Novice - race / slalom gear
Have a bash - anyone on FSW or wave gear

Last time most of us started near Eagle Island. The pros I think started another 50ks upwind.

I reckon your either in for the race of a lifetime or your back on the milk pond (aka the retirement village of windsurfing)

I didnt ask for your opinion about 90 degree sailing, this is a classic 100km DOWNWIND race on smooth protected water that would potentially attract many from around the world and not for the feint hearted.

I would love to see you gybe 48 times on a 50km marathon, could be entertaining

The categories you suggest sound like something to work with

Have spoken to Des on this topic. They the town would like to hold a marathon and slalom race just after Lancelin comp. Similer prizes to Lano. If everyone supports it would be great. they would like a windfest to run in conjuction with the Dirk Hartog Island celebrations in 2016 and that year they have events corp backing already. They want a race or races to start next summer so it would be a massive event by 2016. Lao shi I will PM you Des's number

This sounds like a good option with a 50 and 100km categories.

Depending on how much extra logistical problem this may create
