What great information, thank you very much. The truth is that the ML700 is the best all-round foil I have ever used. After 3 years almost exclusively with Mikeslab, I wanted to explore new foils, mainly because I use silk on prone and I wanted to spend more time on waves than on racing. But it will be difficult to find a substitute for the ML700.

Yes the AFS Silks and Mikeslabs are probably the best the foils in the world atm. I was determined to get stuff with no compromise. And for anyone reading this you won't be disappointed with either!

I need to get a shorter mast for my ML700 so I can use it in the waves more easily (I have a 102cm)

I had the 86cm ML neck with the metal connection but I didn't like it very much.

Do you use the Silks in surf, I was looking for a fast (ish) but glide friendly foil and wondering if the Silks might fit the bill?

I use a Motion mini (which is the same Unit used at Weymouth speedweek that I take part in)

They are the most accurate and quite cheap.

I use the Silk in flat water and in surf, they have such fantastic carving and gliding performance and deal well with broken whitewater. They are also pretty fast and very secure and easy which is exactly what you need when you are dropping down a swell at speed!
Most of my surf / swell riding happens in S Wales (Porthcawl) and occasionally Pembrokeshire.

May I ask you which stab you're using for the AFS Pure 700?

I haven't tried the pure 700

Currently;
silk 1050 + mako Carve v2
silk850 + mako Glide v2
pure 560 race

I was tryng the Pure 700 with ha135, this is what Axel Gerard should use in racing lightwind and comes close to the 560 race setup. Then with 145 stab, this feels more comfortable for me. Did not try with the 150 until now. Seems this is the freestyle option in forward mounted position.

I think that "someone" hasn't used Silk enough. I was with MikesLab for several years, and the only thing I've tried that brings me back to the fun is AFS SILK. I use it mainly for prone riding and wingfoiling in waves. It's not especially fast on the GPS, but it's very responsive.

Best carving and most fun of any foil on the market and standing the test of time IMO. I've got the whole quiver and a wide range of tails that make them absolute magic for winging, swell riding, parawinging, slashing waves.

I still basically only ride the Silks. If I thought there was something better I would be on it. If you want to surf hard this is the foil. It is so far from boring, this person is delusional!

Though so! I'm still in doubt between 80 or 85 mast. Mostly it will be for Wingfoil mostly waves and choppy Sea. Not huge swell some ground swell but mostly wind swell. But would like to be ok also in west France when it gets bigger. Thanks for advice.

Demo an Enduro if you can. With a small shimmed tail the 700 is a hoot. I found it better than the 650 silk in small to medium waves especially after the initial steep part of the wave has finished. Handles good sized waves but not as well as the silk. At 90kg I found the silks harder to keep going, the Enduro glides forever. Rode with Guy when he was here, absolute freak going so deep at the steepest part of the wave which is where the silk excels.

You might need to explain what that has to do with a wave riding foil like the AFS Silk

Skinny masts are uhm with uhm core so super stiff. What you get from them is more sensitive and lively carving.

I was thinking Silk 850 and Pure 700 v2 for a bit more glide and speeding in more than 15knt. Makes sense?

If I were you I'd just go with the Silk 850 and wait and see what comes out this fall before adding a second foil. Kind of curious myself what the future holds.

I agree with you on spans over 900 . a little is ok though. An Enduro 800 might be interesting. I did think the 900 was pretty good with a smaller tail.

I've been riding the UHM 80 and it does everything I want.

The Enduro 700 has the equivalent lift of the silk 850 with more speed and glide.
