I got my first session wing foiling on the 925 yesterday. The wind conditions ended up being marginal but another rider seemed to be doing ok on a 5m and the 925 so I gave it a shot. I found the 925 to need either a little bit more wind or another wing size up from the 1250 (I was on an Armstrong V2 4.5), but it wasn't a lot more. Gusts around 15mph (13 knots) were enough to get me on foil on my 69L board (I'm about 75 kilos). Once up, the ride was really something and it didn't take much wind at all to stay on foil. Waves were around chest to waist high and were mostly ocean rollers that were occasionally standing up in one section of the bay, but still mellow. The speed and glide from the 925 on waves like this was mind blowing and gave me a sensation like I was riding bigger and more powerful waves. On the 925 I could follow a swell with the wing flagged behind me for easily 3-5x the distance I would have been able to do on the 1250. Since it was my first go, I was fairly conservative with turning but, at this point, I think it's fair to say it has very similar turning capacity as the 1250.

I'm hoping to get another session in tomorrow morning, but I left the beach yesterday thinking I could easily live without the 1250 if I added a larger wing to my quiver. With an Armstrong 5.5 or 6m of another brand, I'm confident I could be riding the 925 in 10-12knots. All this said, I definitely think there is still a place for the HS1050 in more powerful waves.

All said, I'm blown away by the first ride and can't wait for the next one.

Oahuwaterwalker - What fuse and tail were you using?

60cm fuse and Flying V tail

The low end of the 925 keeps getting lower for me as I get to understand how it works better. I was out in 12-18 knots with lower lulls and with a 5m was able to make it work pretty well! The was having a grunty wing and finessing the foil up. If you have a light touch on the foil getting going or nearing stall speed, it dramatically lowers the stall threshold. I'm 90 kilos. Combined with the V-tail, the 925 is so fun to carve around. Dying to see if it SUPs ok.

After getting back to the beach, I took photos of my HS1250 and posted it for sale. Again, I won't be selling my 1050 as I really think that still has it's place, but I won't ride the 1250 again.

How much are you listing the 1250 for?

I'm in Hawaii so wasn't going to list it here. Locally $525 it's in mint condition.

Didn't feel any of the stall issues I'm getting trying to prone pump this Fn thing. Super stable, fast, nice glide - real nice.


V tail is crap on this wing for downwinders at speed. Like getting the skateboard wobbles.

It's not pitch, was riding behind my son on a number of downwind runs with swell running and his board was wobbling side to side from behind. He was on a 50 fuse though. He couldn't do the speed we were doing without crashing heaps and we only on 1250s with numpty 232 tails.

Sounds like there're mixed feelings on the V200, but I really like it for winging and SUP. I've gotten on well with it from the start. Very fast, super turny and playful. I'm not really clear what's causing some riders issues with the V-tail "dropping out" or feeling sketchy. I'm late to the chopped 232 party but just did mine and am looking forward to riding it soon. The Kane tail will likely be sweet too.

He's a **** hot winger, better than most of us (already ) and was always wondering why he was eating crap and falling behind on the downwinders. No issues proning in that config though. Weird one. ??

So worth an update, two downwinders yesterday on the 925 for the first time. 232 chopped. Didn't notice any yaw and pitch issues at all and I was honking at some speed connecting the swell lines up. Bloody magic.

When you say DW, was it prone,SUP or ding ?and the conditions, and what mast / fuse combo did you use .....sorry for all the questions just seeing what works on the 925 as it is pretty small for DW

Wow, got my first couple of sessions on the 925 and my mind is blown ?? So fast and so much glide! Coming off the 1250, 1550v2 and 1850.

First session was tow-in into some head high lumps, we ran it on 85cm mast, 60 fuse (A+), 232v1 and one red shim (making it 0deg). Board was an Appletree 4'6" Pro foil surf 37L. Felt great, balanced, fast, no pitch issues. Really really nice.

Then yesterday and today we had some nice 20-25kts cross offshore conditions with 1.5m waves. What dreams are made of ??

I took some time to try different tails and shim settings to see what would work for winging, and I was on my 90L 5'4 Quatro board. I tried first both the 232v1 and a 14" Kane tail with one red +1 shim, but I found for both tails with the +1 shim that the nose wanted to pitch down when going faster, especially when heeling over hard going upwind. I had to put a lot of pressure on my back foot and then still every now and then my board would hit and bounce off the water.

I removed the +1 red shim and then rode the 14" Kane tail without the shim on the A+ 60 fuse, and while that helped a little, it still wanted to dive when heeled over going upwind. With the wing flagged out and going straight I didn't experience the pitch down tendency.

Could it be the board? If noticed the same sensation with other Armstrong wings (1550v2, 1250).

Either way super stoked with this setup, I've never gone so fast on a foil! Hit 45kph today!

Here's a photo of the setup, riding it almost all the way forward in the quatro.

tips to help fine tuning are welcome

including the -1 in the A+ fuse, I ended up running -3 on the 232/85m an -4.5 with the HA195 tail to get rid of the diving. It also caused my average speed to go way up winging because I was more comfortable pushing it.

Greg, I have the same board as well as an Armstrong 5.11 (for SUP). I've been running the 925 fully forward on the Quatro with -1 shim, 85 mast, 60 fuse, and V-tail lately and posted higher speeds on it than using no shim. I'll keep going with progressively more negative shim to see how it feels especially as Kane is using a whopping -4.5 shim(!). I was hitting 40km/h today on the Armstrong in pretty choppy water and for sure there's lots more speed to be had from the rig.

I'm finding the minis 1 fine . with mast at 7 in the FG box. Are you guys right forward in your mast track, meaning can you move it forward and drop the shim a bit? Might try the minus 2 again maybe.

Above... yeh I just got a red plus one shim, turned it around and cut it to size. Placed on zero
metal shim as have non A plus.
