Yeah, Sundays socialising was great!

The Mermaid tavern has been a pretty good location for the movie nights.

Where suits most people? Any suggestions?

Reckon Merm Tavern sounds fine. Not too noisy downstairs and central.

After such a great turn out over the weekend for the down winder it would be great to strike whilst the iron is hot, as they say.

There were a lot of new faces there that would, i think be interested in joining the GCKSC.

Hey Gene/Greenleader how about calling a meeting before everyone heads off to mambo, so we can get this club happening!

everyone should come as it would be good to get it sorted out before summer is over as it dose not seem to be working the way it is now. With all the good work that has been done by some of late it would be good to keep the ball rolling and get this done and sorted, maybe some new face's in the main postions might get it going again.Lets get the word out and get it done as classic said it would be good if someone would call it officially.

thanks paul

Hi,

Just my 2 cents....but there is some groms on the Goldie, that may like to feel involved also. That wouldn't be able to get into Mermaid Tavern. A Surf Club maybe better to include everyone. Like I said just my 2 cents. - Fi

Why not set a date now so we have something to work for instead of waiting till after mambo to set it and having to wait another 2 weeks, what about 5 of december. My thoughts for the meeting before mambo were that if we do did elect new peole that they get to meet the aksa commity and know who they are dealing with makes for a easier working relationship JMO.

Soo much agree Paulie. The season is moving too fast. Need action now and not a few wks after mambo. Re-elections were to be organised straight after the girls fiji trip a month ago. If its going to be early next wk we really need to know soon to get the word out.

Come on guys/girls we need to do something about this club whilst most people are motivated, if we're not careful we won't get this done until Xmas and then the season is almost over.

BUMP !!!

so what's the go ? seems like the 5th of Dec is as good a date as any - gives people plenty of time to organise themselves to make it there.

I have it on good authority that monday is as good date as any, most of the comittee is keen to hand over and lest we not forget that there was a fair bit of work/politics that they have sorted out in the previous year.

Now we keep going forward

Have contacted mermaid tavern (admin manager)about the 'minors' issue. it should be right but awaiting conformation from the main manager. Will become an issue after the 29th as they are bringing the pokies dwnstairs. i know they'll want a date. What will i tell her?
I really think we need this meeting soon. too many beginners doing crazy things (i saw to guys yesterday in that 15-35knt SWer on the inside of the Currumbin alley. 2nd time on board.. kite falling out everytime, with mate still trying to pass him his baord. Mate then walks over dune to beach. kite crashes (obviously) then happy swim in the offshore back to beach.
Schoolies and peek hol season. really need to get everyone pushing safety. ...... and remember the Currumbin alley is 6knts on the inside. Water police patrol daily through the hols. Hope i dont sound like a ****,, but love the sport too much and dont want to lose it.

Slightly off topic, but I thought I'd let everyone know an interesting thing that happened to the girl & I yesterday.
We set up at the Currumbin Alley & launched with intention of kiting the front wave break & Laceys.

After we both launched we were approached by the head lifeguard & advised that, & I quote; "kiting is banned from the rock wall south, including setting up & launching".
I advised him that the SEKSC had negotiated with the marine/transport department & had agreed that we would not kite in the estuary.

He informed me that he had a meeting with the transport department & I quote; "that although he recognised that most of us were responsible & not kiting in the estuary when it was crowded that they had received numerous complaints about a kid jumping/hitting & generally scaring people"

The lifeguards & transport department had a meeting last Wednesday to review these latest complaints & have elected to implement a complete ban on kiting including rigging & launching at the Currumbin Alley.

When I asked him if you could still ride the front break, he informed me that it was a total ban from the rock wall to the flags at elephant rock / Currumbin Surf Club. So that includes front beach.

He thought that we had all been made aware of this.

Apparently signs are to be posted in the next month (probably next to/under the one that says NO SWIMMING)

Yeah Fitzy, but i and many others had hoped not to be banned, more in the now a precedent has been set. Anyone complains about a kite surfer... The B word gets used

Hey that is a bummer. I've only kited there once...I have also been told by a lifeguard that kiters should be 500 meters from flagged areas. That's half a k between two flagged areas so on a weekend at high tides there isn't much room for error. Soon they will be erecting signs on the beach showing where you can kite from like with the surfboard signs. They aren't enforcing this yet and it is easy to drift into a flagged area if you dunk your kite ....

A kite is actually classified as a Vessel and as such is subject to the same regulations as other craft using the waterways.

Hence the Six Knot Rule in the Currumbin Estuary.

I informed the lifeguards that my understanding was that we are classified as a vessel & as such permitted anywhere in the 6 knot area provided we observe the speed limit (or don't & receive speed limit infraction fines)

They looked a bit confused & didn't appear to know how to respond to rule interpretation I'd offered. After a pause they simply politely restated what they'd been told.

Maybe kiting now has a 'vessel' specific ban in the area similar to the gazetted ban on jet ski use in the Tallebudgeera Estuary?????

It's sad because even without play on the inside area it is still a good downwinder finish point & launch / land area.
