Even if the lifeguards are incorrect. It's clear kiting is NOT WELCOME AT ALL in Currumbin area whatever the rules may be.

My fear is the possibility that this could ever extend to the rest of the Gold Coast City beaches, as in the case of Byron Shire.

Sambo,

You should be kiting outside of the "surfing" (blue) flags anyway and I'm sure you are If you need to go past flagged areas then the Life guards are quite happy if you stay out side of the breakers..... although seeing that we are classified as a vessel you should be at least 200M out from the shore line, i think you'll find that if you ditched your kite you're classified as a swimmer and if you did drift through a flagged area (out the back, i hope) the life guard would be having a really bad day to take it out on you.

The scary one is if your kiting on the open beach and a person enters the water that you now have the responsibility to move 60M away from them, unless you are travelling directly to the shore line and doing less then 6Kts, as per all other vessels.

Spot on Classic and Anakin.

60 meters is the minimum distance from a swimmer. Common sense really. Kite lines and leaders are about 30 meters so there is a small margin for error if the kite falls.

Enjoy the sport. We have 26 km of beaches easily accessible by road and about another 12 km of flat water available in the braodwater all accessible by road.

Launch and sail away from swimmers and beachgoers. Resist the temptation to "showpony" close to the shoreline.

It's not rocket science.

Since the last down winder i have been asked by random kiters on the beach if there is a Gold Coast kite boarding club because they would like to join a club. I told them there is but its a Top Secret club.

Just wondering if there is any meetings in the WIND
