Hmm, interesting. Look at this from 11.30 onwards. Strong hints that there are new surf foils on the way from North in the not too distant future....

As you would expect from any other foil brand ...I guess in North world this is major news 😅

Yeah, that's really disappointing. A big marketing campaign on social media for weeks — and now just a refreshed Mode Pro...
There was a video on Instagram by Mike Raper from January 6 where he's testing the SFv2 - and now: nothing again. They're very slow!
Have they even introduced a new foil designer since Uli Sommerlatt left?

They are late to the party so they need to make a confident entrance with stock on hand to prove it. My journey on North is from R1850, A600, 320(ish) to now using the dw820,C650,S142 on UHM85. I used the SF1080 and SF830 with S215/C700 on the way. The waves we get here are always wind driven and the power is often in the lower range for SF. The dw820 turns very well and suits our conditions better in that sense. What I do miss, and this might be just my skill holding back, is the more surf stile powerful bottom turn from the back foot that I can do with the SF830 (imagining its a bigger wave than it is :-). I come from Kiting on surfboard. Opinions shared are usually linked to their home conditions and riding stile. If North comes with a breed of SF and DW I think they will be on the money for me, but I don't think DW is outdated. It is underestimated!

Anyone still on this thread is a North rider, and we probably all agree, they are great foils. Even at their peak the foil updates were slow but was willing to let that go for good product out the end, which they have a great reputation for. We want more and that is not unreasonable. You buy into a foil system with the expectation that it grows with you too, otherwise why drop all that hard earned fun cash. There isn't any comms on what might or could be coming whereas every other foil company is looking to what is next and selling that innovation and investment. I agree, DW, SF and MA all underestimated foils, all the ingredients there for v2's, just gotta hope they invest.

I jumped ship a year ago on the foil side. The Sonar system gave me loads of progress and pleasure! Thanks Mike, Uli, Hugh and the team behind the Sonar! Thanks for not just giving us a system but also carefully 'in person' bringing it to us! And engage with us how to use, what the product was for..how to pack, setup etc! Still use their v3 and v4 nova wings (probably not the best in the world but they work fine)

For me the real shocker is the lack of Comms. Instagram admin is doing his / her best to recycle images. But there is no intro of who's now leading and who are the product dev and design team. With all other foil brands we know who's behind the product and development. Sure we heard that the South African ex Airrush & AK guy came on board. I'm sure he'd like to talk and tell where the ship is going now. One of the nicest fellas.

Whoever is above him - the new CEO who dismantled the entire NZ operation - hasn't got a clue how this small intimate foil business works and doesn't see the need for the product & dev team to be out there engaging with us. Probably following a different industry culture and style .. probably thinks that its about what you present to customers instead of what + who. Who's the new CEO by the way? Anyone know?

Let's see who turns up at AWSI to speak to podcasters and vloggers. If they fail to make an impression I then really hold my breath

Anyone on their new Orbit like to grace us with a drowned double skin video and what it takes to resuscitate and get it back in the air? Coz they look they'd be something of a sea anchor in the surf if things went awry.

The influencers aren't allowed to show it. It could 'drown' the product. Just like foil drive doesn't allow their influencers to never share the horrible FD prop in water sound 😉

Just saw Matt on Foil review of the Sroka. Very poor review. So much so that he won't touch it again. You don't see that often . Concept works but several unfinished details

@mproject

I demoed the 4.5m at the hatch a few days back and experienced post submersion relaunch.

Found getting the canopy on its back, lifting by the LE, and incrementally letting canopy inflate/water drain until it would fly. Had to be deliberate and methodical but didn't take long (~2min)

Wow.. around 2 minutes ...no wonder the influencer army isn't showing any videos of the fully submerged soaking wet launch and how to drag that 50 kilo water filled beast onto the board . Congrats for trying. 2 minutes sounds ...🫣

I haven,t seen those around.
Foilwise I,m pretty much in my happy place with my AFS foils.
living in Europe I value that they are made here instead of Asia highly too so no really need to try new stuff from other brands..
tbh even then NP wouldnt be my top of the list, rather Code/KT/ F4

would you rather choose sabfoil over NP?

Of course you would have to choose Sabfoil over NP.. SF is a dedicated foil brand.

NP foil seems more like an 'add on' to the NP brand and the brand's watersport portfolio. To me it always looked like they are in wingfoiling just for the sake of not missing out on being in the market.

I was on the early NP wingfoils and it was disappointing that there was near zero evolution of their range, while other foil brands were continuously expanding their range.

Even I noticed the other day that one of their team riders was riding a Duotone foil with the DT branding on the mast removed, but the front wing was clearly a DT (as it was a picture taking during a jump) NP is just there to milk this market segment.

Sorry if I offended any NP lovers out there.

Foil drives are for old boys with cash to burn that are too old and unfit to prone/ sup in the surf or downwind.

Now I don’t criticise these old boys for doing it. A lot of the time they are having an absolute blast when they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

And yes the majority of them are absolute dogs with zero surf/foil etiquette or recognition of the fact they’re on a motorised craft and are legally required to stay away from non motorised water users. Most of them have the funds available to fight the court case when they do eventually decapitate someone anyway so abiding by laws, etiquette or respect for the fellow human being is not high on their list but at least their having fun and good on them, thats all I’m saying!

Huge correlation between being over mid 50s and not caring about anyone/thing anymore 😂

It's good to hear honest opinions and we should be more appreciative of them.

About a year ago I had a FD setup several times in the shopping basket and super convinced to get it. I had watched dozens of FD videos and all positive about the usecases. And then there was this video on YT (can't find it now) that talked about the neverending spending you do after buying the basic setup, which was an eye-opener for me.

A year later, and not having bought it and witnessing all the flow of new bits to market, I'm glad I never jumped on the bandwagon. Of course FD isn't holding a gun to my head to buy everything, but I know myself: I have the money to spend and am a sucker for better performance. And that is exactly what FD is designed to do and designed for. I'm sure it's a great product but it needs to be relevant for ones own conditions.

I agree that sometimes it looks like influencers trying to make it look like it can cover all bases. In that sense it's also a brilliantly designed money-making platform that is super well integrated with social media channels and anyone who matters in this space.

Happy to stay away from it and much happier to spend my money on better and lighter boards, great foils (and not chucking a block of drag on them plus more noise), and getting the newest gen parawings.

Many roads lead to Rome and FD is one of them.

Looking for a consistent method of getting up on a parawing standing. Unable to find any video talking about this topic. I struggle with an old hip injury with the parawing pulling sideways. Not an issue with winging pulling upward.

Greg from Omen Foils has the best video out there. Everything in his video just works. Hope it can help.

What's going on at Unifoil and why is everything being advertised at super low prices? Is this a fake shop? uni-foil.com

Or is the brand in trouble? I remember a setup like this going for 2000+ eur.. maybe 2200 or 2400. Weird? Strange? Suspicious?

Keen to know owners and riders' experiences of the new North Sonar. They arrived relatively late to the foiling scene. The first Sonar was a collab with Delta foils and some bits looked a bit outdated. However the new range looks more like it..

New, being the 2022-2023 North Sonar with the:
- new stabilizers s210, s270 etc.. and not s01, s02
- new HA and MA front wings.

I found these reviews by Tucker from Mackite and Gunnar, but they could be biased because one is selling them, and the other is a team rider.

I am particularly interested in the new HA1250 and HA1450 fw's for wingfoil. Also is the carbon mast as good as they say? How does it compare to others? What league are they in? Armstrong? Axis?

Their prices are good and North does have good quality standards. Every wing comes with covers, also the carbon mast. The bag the foil comes with looks like a big bonus:

So what's the verdict on the North Sonar?
