Having pulled one out to sandblast and re-galvanise, the frame is put in before the bunk furniture so you have to cut the bunk fronts on one side to get it out.

True.
When I repaired mine I cut out the rusty bits and welded in 10mm stainless plate. It's highly unlikely the bits behind the bunks would be in bad shape but if they were I would make the whole lot in stainless in 3 parts and weld it together in situ.

Hey Ramona,

It's not me messaging you on Facebook Graham, tho' I did post on the Greenwell Point group on 22 June. VU022 is the mooring being checked, Peter was the previous 'owner' - towards the NW of the mooring field. The Hunter will be new to Greenwell Point, she was in Sydney for 5 years and Victoria before that.

Yep, I'm not in a hurry. I'd much rather take 3 or 4 days than end up trying to get in in the dark.

Now I have your number, if the dates align I'll contact you for any help I can get in getting in.

Cheers
ACTAndy

Several buoys unmarked nearby but I'm sure this is 022. Previous boat was a Beneteau 40+. Was put there for an Amel 54 so it's a good mooring and it's right alongside the prettiest yacht there.

Thanks, Lazzz, Saltiest1 and Bullrout.

In the end, I used De-solv-it, rags and paper towels to get rid of the worst gunk. Then Starbrite Bilge Cleaner through a spay bottle, scrubbed with a long handle toilet brush and rinsed with warm water. I treated myself to a Karcher wet/dry vacuum and it was brilliant.

The original problem was a Rule 1100 gph that didn't remove enough water from the bilge, leading to wet floors when heeled. The pump also cycled continuously due to backflow through the clogged check valve. Solved by fitting a Rule LoPro non-automatic that sits right down in the deep V bilge. 19mm outlet hose to reduce backflow (300 ml per metre). A Water Witch switch mounted 50 mm above the pump. Should have listened to Ramona years ago ...

Cheers,
Kinora

I would have suggested Metal Gleam mixed with warm water for the initial scrub followed by Truck wash, CT18 or equivalent. If you have a bit of oil in your bilge occasionally spray and wipe the face of the Water Witch. Oil on the face can upset the operation.

The mooring at Greenwell is being checked today, and assuming it passes I'll be looking to move my boat from Powder Hulk Bay shortly.

I'll be single handed.

I'm planning the trip now, but as I'm a new keelboat sailor I want to be safe. Given that the Spit bridge doesn't open until 10:30am! am I best stopping at Port hacking on day one, then setting off early the following day with the hope of being there before sundown (with an option of Shell Harbour if I'm late and starting again the following day).

I'm open to your thoughts/opinions/wisdom and if anyone needs a ferry from Sydney to Greenwell Point I'd be happy to have the crew or maybe even a 'convoy'?

Thanx
ACTAndy

First question is which mooring is getting checked today at Greenwell Point? Are you the bloke who has been messaging me on Facebook Greenwell Point Yachts group? My phone number is on the top of that page. Is this the same Hunter that used to reside at Greenwell Point? I will be up in Sydney for a couple of days, Sunday the 9th of August and will be home in the afternoon on Tuesday. I will be able to assist entry on the other days.
The weather will most likely be Westerlies or South Westerlies at the times you mentioned. If light the seas will be slight as well. I would stop at Port Hacking on the first day. Then it would depend on the breeze but stick inshore heading South and see how far you can go in daylight. Early departure from Port Hacking and a close reach with a moderate Westerly you could get to the Shoahaven Bight by late afternoon. What ever you do don't rush or have a strict time table. Plenty of places to stop at in including Kiama and the other places mentioned. Don't bother entering Greenwell Point in the dark. Anchor off the beach in about 15 to 20 metres and enter after breakfast.
It's a bugger of a trip in a Southerly so don't bother.

There certainly are. There are limber holes everywhere you would expect them to be. Under the mast frame you may find rusty bits of steel have blocked the limber holes.

I put Prop One on last time on the slips. Over two years now and I'm impressed. It's like all these products though it's all in the preparation. The timing is critical for the various applications as well and it means working fast and efficiently. I can see how easy it would be to balls it up!
