Well well well, this certainly is an interesting offering from PPC. Full double skin para with a trim/ brake line that gives it low end as good or better than a single skin. They are claiming crazy wind ranges 12-30+ knots for a 3.5m, 10-28 knots for a 4.5m !!! Also saying it should still pack away well. Sounds amazing! I don’t know if all these things are possible at the same time but it would be cool if they are.

Early on in winging PPC held back a bit then knocked it out of the park with their release of the Surge wing. The 3.8m v1 surge is still my most used and all time favourite wing. Although I never really invested in the much newer fancier wings because the Surge just kinda did what I needed it to do.

It looks like PPC are attempting to do the same thing with their release of the Orbit. They are later than most but have brought something totally different than what is currently available. It’s different enough that I personally would need to see a fair few independent reviews and rider feedback before I would invest in one. Prices are already up on OTB Marine and they are a couple hundred more than an ozone so definitely not cheap!

I certainly hope this wing can live up to the claims they are making because if it does it will really ( ok I’m gonna say it) Change the Game!!

Holy crap I didn’t realise it’s a double skin. I was questioning the patent pending but if this wing is that easy to control as in the video it will be totally amazeballs. Ay caramba

Regarding the harness line not being stiff enough, there is old trick we used in kiting with our chicken loop lines before plastic coating because the standard.

The trick was to soak the dyneema line in candle wax. I'd just melt and drip tons of hot wax into the line using a BIC lighter. The line would wear way better and it gained some structure.

So cool I'll try this for sure

Ordered a 4.3 and 5 to be my upwind/downwind tool. I do not downwind shuttle much and only in strong wind will keep the 2.5/3.5 Frigates for that as they pack down well. 5m PR in the backpack as security.

I hope they are as good as the reviews say. What I like the look of is the collapse in offshore winds I saw Dimitry doing on his vid.

Ordered a 5m for the same reason Hilly. Will compliment my hybrids and dw specific Parawing's well I think.

Yep hybrids are high wind looking for the light wind upwind/downwind machine. Ptskin 5.4 was not quite it with upwind not good enough.

The low end is surprisingly good on the hybrid 4.3 but you do lose steering so a single skin I think is the best thing to compliment. Biggest advantage of the hybrid is the crazy good wind range while maintaining well above average up wind ability. But for super light wind it's a no.

They are late to the game. 777 has already realsed everything I/we need. They should have announced things earlier! Ozone too, you never know with Ozone when/if they realse. They should have realsed the PR v2 and PP at the same time.
Hybrid is great specially in smaller sizes!

Hahaha Your taking the p!ss.

If hybrids have a future then there is plenty to improve upon from the 777. Maybe for over 20 knots a hybrid might make sense but more likely the reliable PW companies will have the same performance or likely better in a single skin. The only thing that 777 hybrid is delivering over a PR or frigate right now is comfort in very strong gusty winds. But you do give up so much for that, response, weight, bulk, price and pack away.

Well we are in our off season in Western Australia and winds are variable as can be. I'm having a great time on the 4.3m hybrid and haven't experienced anything that goes upwind in such a huge wind range. From 15 to over 30 knots I'm out pointing others consistently. Low end is more than acceptable and pack down is fantastic, packing down to almost nothing. Only downside is lack of dynamic feel and low end jibing but this just takes more skill and more than attainable. I'm keen to try this new BRM and remain a huge supporter of the brand but it's going to take a very good offering to take me away from the hybrid at this time of year, the wind range is just so good.

airsail said..Good that you can ride both ways, so many can't and it hurts their upwind.

That's funny Hooked in I can ride upwind so well. Easily better than wingers. Lean out with one hand on the bar harness swings way round stand straight and have a ball.

You should come over east and give some of our non switchers a lesson, their upwind while riding switch is pitiful. And watching their attempts to get going in anything but strong wind is comical.

Not sure how long you've been parawinging but it's not like winging in that you can go upwind really well toeside but you need more skill and not everyone can do it. Getting up toeside is really useful too, the alignment of the body holding the wing in your front hand is excellent for pumping the board, better than riding healside in a lot of conditions ..you should try it if you can ride toeside well enough ??
