I sh!t you not, I once saw one windsock at Hervey Bay airport showing 15-20 knots a complete 180* to a second windsock showing 15-20. How can you ever expect to forecast that one...

I was under the impression that BoM relied heavily on NOAA models and that ceased to be available to them under the current US Administration.
I believe this site as well as Willy Weather gets there information from sensors measuring for the BoM. My observation is that the forecast become acceptably accurate closer to the day of concern.

On the actual day nothing beats looking out the window 😎

I think it would be an ok practice in areas that it is a known common practice. I do think it would be better if the bouys or fenders were floating on top so you could see a string of bouys.

I think it would be prudent for all sailers to follow or expect a standard practice and be predictable. The sailor that lays out 50m of chain in 5 meters of water on a calm day is also a hazard.

I can swim, except maybe in a bar situation or at night in bad weather. I only wear a pfd crossing a bar and when on watch at night.
Wearing one in a tender is a PITA and there is almost no situation where I couldn't swim to the boat or to shore.
Governments making laws for only the lowest common denominator, like forcing everybody to wear a pfd in a tender, is just dumbing down the population.

I agree with this.

Crossing a bar (very rare experience here in WA), at night and anytime the question gets asked due weather.

I personally have a few other variables such as Im suspect of a guests ability to swim but that those variables are few and far between. I rarely mandate it in the dingy, law or not.

Have a look at those contour lines. Thats not nothing, And then no survey data in the middle of an entire ring of tight rising contour lines .

Draw your own conclusions and sail on if you like, but I know where i wouldn’t be.

Im not convinced bluetooth makes it any safer or unsafe.

if there were to be a thermal runaway or any other dangerous state, you'd have to be there looking at the information on your app otherwise is going to be too late.

Bluetooth is just a nice to have for proper/normal battery management.

Would you buy ‘made in’ Japan, Singapore, Korea? They were all once the masters of mass cheap production, and now produce some of the world’s most trusted brands.

China produces some amazing quality items, Nearly everything you purchase is either made in China or is made from components in China. It comes down to common sense.

I wouldn’t by a genuine Raymarine potter off Temu for $300.

The real annoyance..... their annual license is now the costs of the old perpetual license.

I bought an app based logbook for work that cost a one off $80 period. A few years later it became a $125 a year subscription. While I get there’s constant costs in customer support, upgrades, updates etc, I was happy with the version that I bought and it’s just an excel based program anyway.

Navionics was the same. You bought the program, downloaded the area you were interested in (all of Aust if you wanted to) and it worked perpetually but without updates is you didn’t pay the annual subscription which was $19. Now if you don’t pay the annual subscription of nearly $100 it becomes unusable.

i enjoyed some hobby CNC work, but I can’t justify the annual subscriptions anymore.

The problem is literally everywhere.
