I think Lithium is fine as long as good ones, ideally certified, and precautions in place. Ive got them on my boat. I got that confidence from them being used as main batteries on the A350 and 787 aircraft. My main precaution is temperature sensor on top of each and I get alarm at 50 Deg. I picked that because 50 Deg+ is too hot to touch and something must be wrong.
I looked into any way of putting out a lithium battery fire and there isnt, except massively cool them which is hard to do. Ideally they need a quick release mechanism so if there was impending danger they could quickly be tossed overboard.
